We seem to be heading into a situation (already) where who posted what and when is becoming very tangled.
Just been looking at the member list.
Our good sys has been reborn as Anoncat and aquired 40 posts.
Philliman sets a new record at 207 although he had 97 on the 7 th.
I am aware that these high numbers probably come from importing old files. But when it comes to wishing to look at any particular members posts, where does one start ?
I foresee total confusion in a very short time.

Hal, I am happy you told me Sys was Anoncat now. I was wondering where Sys went to.
That cunning Anoncat!

Hopefully some of the confusing posts will stop now that the old site is down and old post/threads can't be quote copied pasted here. Total confusion is a good thing. It means things are getting back to normal.
You do raise a good point. Why did Sys change his name and cause apparent discord across the board? However, I don't understand why it makes it hard to figure out who posted what. You can go into member list and see their Name and Username. You need to stay on your toes (or hoofs) here and be aware of who is who, when and where.

Yeah, I'm confused enough without people swapping names around willy-nilly. What's up with that anyway?

Doublenoughtspy,
Why do you bother doing this ?
Possibly the 'power That Be' (Yes Crystal, that's you) can put a stop to this silliness before it gets any more out of hand.
Everyone should stick to the username they registered with.
Running more than one username was once considered bad form.

Ed,

I never said it was hard. I am just saying it should not be necessary to do it. If you have to start each session by going to the member list to check who is who today you may as well just watch the white House staff changing.

I would think that the changing of user names can be limited. Some sites allow only one change, some none. That can be gotten around too if one is willing to delete their account and start a new one. There's really nothing that can be done about it besides requesting a policy change by the administrator assuming it's doable. People are only exercising their right to use what the site allows.
I do understand your point however and I'd have no problem with being stuck with the user name used for display when I signed up. Any special circumstances for a justifiable change could be made on a case by case basis.

Doublenoughtspy, Why do you bother doing this ? HAL I thought my post above was a pretty obvious joke. Back on the other board, I had multiple accounts and swapped names around for various reasons. Much of it might be described as a casual sociological study. Some of those experiments produced interesting results. Sometimes I was just screwing with Lev, as in the Lev Umpteen episode. That had a pretty funny conclusion. But really it's like the stories I posted over there about various (usually fictional) members of the ARC: I did it for amusement, mostly my own. Don't worry, I'm tiring of this new forum and will no doubt be pretty scarce around here. The old forum was very easy to use, and had some really nice features. It was like so many Google products over the years. It was well designed, cleverly executed, and very useful. And now it's gone.

Lev was one of the more interesting trolls we had to deal with on the old sight. I kinda miss that discourse. It was fun undermining his attempts at hiding and stirring up crap. !
