So Mars becomes a possibility.
Looking around you, who do you think should be going ?
Anyone read Kim Stanley Robinson's Red Mars ?
The warnings are there. No need to take the other two parts of the trilogy into consideration.

Going to Mars is a death sentence.
It has been proven that our eyesight, immune system, genes, and bones deteriorate in space.
It also been suggested that a happy older husband and wife should go because they would work together better and maybe could survive.

Eventually, after many years there, humans would probably adapt to some of the problems. Pretty much in the same way that they have adapted to living on radically different parts of our planet.
We have to start somewhere. Here, in the long term, is finished.
We can't even control our population. and that should be very easy.
