Koko, the gorilla who knew sign language, dies at 46 By Associated Press | Jun 21, 2018
Koko, the gorilla who mastered sign language, dies at 46, Photo Date: 4/12/17
WOODSIDE, Calif. (AP) — Koko, the gorilla who mastered sign language, has died.
The Gorilla Foundation says the 46-year-old western lowland gorilla died in its sleep at the foundation's preserve in California's Sana Cruz mountains on Tuesday.
Koko was born at the San Francisco Zoo, and Dr. Francine Patterson began teaching the gorilla sign language that became part of a Stanford University project in 1974.
The foundation says Koko's capacity for language and empathy opened the minds and hearts of millions.
Koko appeared in many documentaries and twice in National Geographic. The gorilla's 1978 cover featured a photo that the animal had taken of itself in a mirror.
The foundation says it will honor Koko's legacy with a sign language application featuring Koko for the benefit of gorillas and children, as well as other projects.

I saw a documentary on Koko. The woman asked her if she took the banana and she signed no. She was fibbing.
I will never forget that.

NEW MODEL PREDICTS THAT WE’RE PROBABLY THE ONLY ADVANCED CIVILIZATION IN THE OBSERVABLE UNIVERSE
Article written: 21 Jun , 2018 by Matt Williams
According to a new theory argued by Anders Sandberg, Eric Drexler and Toby Ord, the answer to the Fermi Paradox may be simple: humanity is alone in the Universe. Credit: ESA/Gaia/DPAC
The Fermi Paradox remains a stumbling block when it comes to the search for extra-terrestrial intelligence (SETI). Named in honor of the famed physicist Enrico Fermi who first proposed it, this paradox addresses the apparent disparity between the expected probability that intelligent life is plentiful in the Universe, and the apparent lack of evidence of extra-terrestrial intelligence (ETI).
In the decades since Enrico Fermi first posed the question that encapsulates this paradox (“Where is everybody?”), scientists have attempted to explain this disparity one way or another. But in a new study conducted by three famed scholars from the Future of Humanity Institute (FHI) at Oxford University, the paradox is reevaluated in such a way that it makes it seem likely that humanity is alone in the observable Universe.

I predict they will know soon that we are not alone... Galaxy in a Crystal Ball Image Credit & Copyright: Juan Carlos Munoz
Explanation: A small crystal ball seems to hold a whole galaxy in this creative snapshot. Of course, the galaxy is our own Milky Way. Its luminous central bulge marked by rifts of interstellar dust spans thousands of light-years. On this long southern hemisphere night it filled dark Chilean skies over Paranal Observatory. The single exposure image did not require a Very Large Telescope, though. Experiments with a digital camera on a tripod and crystal ball perched on a handrail outside the Paranal Residencia produced the evocative, cosmic marble portrait of our home galaxy. apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap180622.html

Great stuff people! this is an oldie..but a goody Hint..where are They? They are all dead. Not the bomb isnt dropped..its a nuclear tipped missile! .2 kilotons..probably first micro nuke..Imagine now..50+ years later
www.atlasobscura.com/articles/watch-five-alarmingly-calm-men-stand-under-an-exploding-atomic-bombWatch Five Alarmingly Calm Men Stand Under an Exploding Atomic Bomb In 1945, the first atomic bomb was set off during the Trinity Test in the New Mexican desert. This marked the birth of the Atomic Age, a period of nuclear experimentation that would alter the world on a sociocultural level, not to mention an elemental one. Today we know the danger of exposure to atomic bombs. First there is the initial fiery explosion, caused by the splitting of an atom. However, the arguably more dangerous effect of the atom bomb is its radiation, both from the original blast and the residual radioactivity left in its wake. This can spread over a miles-long diameter, but is most concentrated at ground zero, the point directly underneath the detonation. Hence why this video of five men standing directly beneath an atomic bomb test is a bit disturbing. On July 19th, 1957, Col. Sidney Bruce, Lt. Col. Frank P. Ball, Maj. Norman “Bodie” Bodinger, Maj. John Hughes, and Don Luttrel all volunteered to stand beneath the bomb. As the video shows, they stand next to a sign, intended to be humorous, which reads: “GROUND ZERO Population 5”. The men are huddled together, their hands shading their eyes, wavering in anticipation as a radio voice counts down from 10. At 0:55 we see the bomb released from the plane. At 0:59 a a burst of white light illuminates the volunteers’ faces. They wince at the brightness, though Major Bodinger, who thought to wear sunglasses, keeps his eyes trained at the sky the whole time. He is equipped with a microphone, and narrates the experience live. “We felt a heat pulse,” he says, “a very bright light, a fireball, it is red, the sky looks black about it, it is boiling above us there, it is wrapped in–” At this point, about 10 seconds after the blast, the sound wave hits. The men, who had been looking at mushroom cloud above them, duck and cover, then stumble about. Major Bodinger’s voice swells in excitement while his companions can be heard shouting in the background. “There is the ground wave! It is over folks, it happened. The mounds are vibrating. It is tremendous, directly above our heads. It worked! It worked!” Enjoying This Story? Get our latest, delivered straight to your inbox by subscribing to our newsletter. The test was one of hundreds conducted by the U.S. military at this point in time, and the bomb detonated was relatively small—a mere two kilotons. The purpose of having the men stand at ground zero was simply to observe what the explosion was like from such a close perspective. So what happened to them? It’s complicated. George Yoshitake, the cameraman who did not volunteer, reported that many of his fellow atomic cameramen had died of cancer, presumably as a result of exposure to radiation. Over the years the government has paid upwards of $150 million to onsite participants in atomic tests, not to mention those unwittingly exposed by being downwind of radioactive explosions. Reporters have attempted to find the men who took part in the 1957 test, but to no avail. Military records indicate they are all dead, but with no word on whether their fatality was linked to radioactive exposure. It must have been exciting, if not a little terrifying, to take part in such a grand experiment, one that literally changes the elemental makeup of the world around you. Major Bodinger ends his transmission sounding moved: “This thing went off with a white flash. It was just beautiful.” Every day we track down a Video Wonder: an audiovisual offering that delights, inspires, and entertains. Have you encountered a video we should feature? Good Saturday morning lovely UFOCasebookers
Ah, Peter Pan Peanut butter on carrots is one of my favorite snacks while watching old shows.
Sky King has a flaw. He needs to find a place to land before he can really do anything. Those extra minutes can make a big difference but he always come through.

Haunted Castle For Sale in Maine
Paul Seaburn June 23, 2018
A haunted castle is up for sale in Maine. A good question might be: “What is a castle doing in Maine?” A better question might be: “Isn’t ‘haunted castle’ redundant?” Whatever the question, the answer is that it can be yours for only $2.5 million. At that price, the ghosts should at least pay rent or help with the cleaning.
At 7 Singles Road in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, sits the Beckett Castle. According to the real estate listing, the two-story residence has 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a 3-story tower and 1,981 square feet of living space. In England, that would be called a garage or a shed, but Beckett Castle was built in 1874 as a summer cottage for Sylvester Beckett, a prominent lawyer, publisher and poet who lived and worked in Portland. Unlike most lawyers, Beckett was good with his hands and reportedly built the castle himself out of local gray fieldstone. Facing Casco Bay on the southern tip of Maine, it has a fabulous view ocean view and easy access to sailing, fishing and other water activities, and has been nominated to the National Register of Historic Places.
Sounds good so far, right? Check out the photos here: www.mansionglobal.com/articles/a-magical-castle-on-the-cliffs-of-maine-76952
