For me the saga of Trump's presidential idiosyncracies (to immediately position myself: I like this president from a safe distance, dig some of his policies and beliefs like his climate stance, economics and support for strong police/military, while on the downside his 'diplomatic style' often makes me cringe ) is playing out on CNN. Wish I had access to Fox News for balance. My latest fav shows are Cuomo Prime Time and Don Lemon (reading out the entire NYTimes text of Steady State Op-Ed essay as linked above this post) the following hour of the Dutch night.
Isn't this weird stuff? A senior official getting his letter published in the NYTimes basically saying his/her president is a 25th amendment worthy basketcase, who needs an adult in the room to keep him from actually doing some of the crazy stuff that randomly pops into his mind. They claim to be a group working against the sitting pres they serve, intending to render him as ineffective as possible until he has been replaced or removed from his office.
I'm thinking. This is gonna make a great movie.
Normally my last prayer of the day is for endangered species of animals. Tonight I prayed for President Trump, like "Jesus, be his friend" because there seems to be a shortage of those around him in the White House.
Thinking some more now. Even a member of the CNN panel was going like "even paranoids have enemies" uh.. well.. if it is true a group of his own appointed officials, at least one at 'senior' level has secretly been working against him, his presidency, now even writing this letter clearly intended to facilitate his removal one way or the other, I'd hesitate to call him paranoid at all. There really is a Deep State (although it prefers to call itself STEADY STATE same difference methinks).
Are such actions treasonous under US law? I strongly suspect so.
Who is to blame, which is cause for the predicament America is in right now? Donald Trump imo owns a substantial part of his manifold problems himself simply by not participating in the traditional theater of acting as Presidents of the United States are wont to do. His lack of aptitude for hypocrisy is downright shocking (compared to the average professional politician), this is a REAL criticism: if you want to run with dogs you must be ready to lick, whine, bark, wag when prompted, wet down trees with aplomb, do all those doggy things the American People expect of you. It's the job.
I do think CNN and similar MSM outlets have been killing this guy every which way. It's one of the reasons he's the least popular US president ever in my country the Netherlands. Here the few things even he surely gets right appear underreported, he gets blamed for what he gets wrong, I've seen instances where he gets virulently blamed for stuff he is innocent of.
The essence of this story is that this president is supposedly unfit for office. I immediately wonder then WHY ABOUT HALF OF AMERICA VOTED FOR HIM?? Doesn't that testify adequately to his 'fitness' (in a Democratic Republic)?
Finally I wonder if the Steady State has thought through Trump's succesful removal/exit from office. Is Mike Pence fit to be US president, really? No doubt a devout Christian, but approving state law to prevent transgenders from using public bathrooms? Is THAT sane, is it good law? In a wholly different way VP Pence worries me a lot more than the sitting president.
Of one thing I am sure: American politics is not boring...
