disclaimer...sorry I couldn't edit or write more! ha ha! I kept getting a pop up from google to wait or exit page from half through writing it! **********************************************************************************************************
Oh no....arrrrh' ..... again! Freaking health issues today! My fingers don't work right! I fully identify with C. Peters character 'Josiah'*. He is cast on 'the man who fell to earth'. Hi I think it was the 2nd episode when he complained his fingers were so damaged he couldn't do his sculpture. Oh well, I am off topic already!
Ok the topic is war. I was thinking this morning as I was surfing trying to avoid all the MSNBC's and CNN's etc propaganda I began thinking about how we humans are so bound to war! .....GREED...I have been on earth for over six decades and war has always looming, or happening or just ending. It's our collective addiction. And what have we gained from six thousand years or more of war? It don't feel good, you know like a high usually does. It doesn't taste good (my addiction is food.....mmmmm' foooood). It's not even like a fetish or plain ole' sex addiction. I guess war is thrilling for the generals, other officers and REMF's**. Damn sad, awful sad really***. And we pat ourselves on the back thinking we are the most advanced life form on this planet! Truly my friends (and others), I think not! What if an Alien race were observing us? I don't think they would not agree we are earth's most superior species! Hmm'. I could be wrong of course! Playing the devils advocate, maybe a war-like, vicious ET saw that we were much like them! So they gave us the mantel of most advanced species!
Cya! Cyall'
If that happened I would be forced to think THEY, the ET's aren't too advanced either! Ha ha. I can see it now.... 'BREAKING NEWS'....'The Invaders from space were captured in low earth orbit in their crippled renewable energy spaceship! Yes, a green spaceship! The creatures said their solar cells quit charging in deep, deep dark space! At first they were not concerned even though their main source of power, the solar cells stopped functioning. No worries, they had a back up energy source, wind power! Didn't work, the windmills they hung out in space via the air locks did not function! "Hey what's that sound?' were the last words of a crew member as he sling shotted out of the space dock hanger, past his buddy into open space..... "Uh!.... I think that sound is called an explosive decompression event! His friend shouted! He himself realized that he too was now a projectile obeying newton's laws as well as a few of Alberts E's writings about relativistic velocity of bodies in motion becoming redshifted due to acceleration.... Meanwhile The reporters were looking around the now empty craft and finally said "Greta not much to report here suck most if not all of the crew were ejected into the vacuum of space!
Well am kind of cheered up! I guess boring to near death took my mind off the topic!
Really, everything from ants to chimps to humans war as a way of life nearly. We eat our fellow creatures too. Sometimes, even humans eat humans. Oh well sorry for the downer ... But I really do feel when it comes to truth.... We aern't too different than ants, bacteria or chimps.

Hi MrYelm, ahh.. you certainly have an interesting way of cheering yourself up ! Hitting on some thought provoking points in your post here: I too seem to have begun suffering from a kind 'war fatigue' by now, mainly from Dutch media's blow by blow coverage of president Putin's seemingly endless foray into neighbor Ukraine, repeatedly including this or that civilian target getting rocketed. Each time a number of innocents dead is reported I cringe a little. Got to the point I don't want to hear/view it anymore. I hope mr Putin soon finds a logical reason in his mind to call it quits, call it a big win whatever, anything so Ukrainians may return home, rebuild and live in peace once more. The weird thing is I like the closely intertwined neighbors, Russians and Ukrainians alike, they're fellow Europeans, fellow HUMANS and for the life of me I can't make sense of this particular war. Waste of time imo. Waste of lives. Your question "...what have we gained from six thousand years or more of war?" I'd like to reverse that. I believe we gained or inherited the last 6000+ years of war from some 350,000 yrs of Modern Man fighting his prehistoric bud off to survive into the 'Human History' (the past 11,000 years) we have records of. Food addiction (or hunger) is relevant, because our very earliest ancestors (Evolutionary Theory has started to lean to an actual 'Adam' and 'Eve', or at least an extremely small arch-family from which ALL of us have descended!) were not alone on Earth, there were many others and they all wanted to eat. Lots of famished meat eaters too. So our first wars were all out competition against all comers. Every mega beast (think of today's big game predators, lions crocs wolves etc. except x times bigger ) who had us listed as entre, any non-vegetarian other early humans, as well as Modern Human cannibal tribes, we had to make sure to totally disagree with them. Totally disagree=genocidal tribal war/eradication. Can't leave a salivating family of cannibals living next door to eat your children can you... Imo we have been fighting for a very very long time, and we hardly had a choice in the matter. Did alien visitors observe us struggle for hundreds of thousands of years? I strongly suspect they did. In this big'ole universe it stands to reason that there are more than one kind of alien, just like there is more than one species of earthly lifeforms. I agree with you that the most highly advanced, ethical ET probably looked at all the bloodshed with a sigh of sadness, intending to return millennia later to see whether we would develop into a civilization that respected all life. SURELY there were others dropping in with their own fresh memory of war who even felt right at home with human tribes going at it with ever more carefully crafted javelins, stone hammers and axes, weaponizing fire (perhaps as early as 250,000 years Before Present by Homo Heidelbergensis hunting parties), developing palisades, walls and siege technology, entering into an everlasting arms race, ultimate results pending. I imagine warlike aliens to have on occasion succumbed to temptation by walking among us, donning some fiendishly clever disguise. Bonded with one tribe or another to give the chosen (literally) an edge, nudge them to jump ahead in swordmaking or armour. This would be like an alien war game on our globe's scale. These guys would be our Gods of War.
Have we learned from all the warmaking? I think yes, and this is good and hopeful news. Historical research into war is showing that over thousands of years we have begun to make less war, and to kill less in wars and by murder. No fuzzy new age brain haze either but hard science crunching the numbers. If you like to read check out Steven Pinker's The Better Angels of our Nature. Hard hitting science showing that contrary to what we're hearing in the news and parroting fashionable memes, human kind truly is making baby steps in the right direction. We are getting better!
"States are far less violent than traditional bands and tribes. Modern Western countries, even in their most war-torn centuries, suffered no more than around a quarter of the average death rate of nonstate societies, and less than a tenth of that for the most violent one."
Steven Pinker Is there direct proof for such a positive take on how our relationship with the horrors of violence, competition and war has been changing for the better, even in your and mine experience? Maybe in this very conversation? I think yes... "Really, everything from ants to chimps to humans [makes] war as a way of life nearly. We eat our fellow creatures too. Sometimes, even humans eat humans. Oh well sorry for the downer ... But I really do feel when it comes to truth....
We aren't too different than ants, bacteria or chimps."
Mr Yelm
I read you saying that we are 'fellow' to other 'creatures' logically extending your fellowship to all other life. Clearly you are not worried that UCB readers will declare you mad or come out to kill you over this inclusive belief. Simply, human beings all over have come to an understanding that each person, but also animals, plant life, our living planet is of immeasurable worth..... worth keeping come to think about it...
