I saved this one verbatim from 2012, the link to the story is no longer active but here is the original story: Mystery ground shaking rattles South JerseyBy NBC News USGS USGS Intensity Map of New Jersey shaking South New Jersey residents felt the ground shaking Saturday morning, but no earthquakes or military training exercises were reported in the region. The U.S. Geological Survey suggested a possible sonic boom was the cause. "I'm in LEH [Little Egg Harbor] and my basement door shook violently for 15 sec or so long enough to creep me out. Sounded like someone was trying to get out," posted a person identified as Dana Re on the Jersey Shore Hurricane News Facebook page. Advertise | AdChoices ________________________________________ Another comment, posted by a person identified as John Tefankjian, said he felt his Brigantine house shake, but differently from when fighter jets go by in training. See the NBCPhiladelphia.com report "There currently is no training of any type that would have resulted in today's incident," Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst spokesman Pascual Flores told NBC News on Saturday. The New Jersey National Guard last weekend conducted artillery-fire training that it told the public about in advance. NBCPhiladelphia.com reported that residents in Atlantic, Cape May, Ocean, Salem and Camden County claimed they felt the ground shake. Watch the most-viewed videos on NBCNews.com Comments on the shaking were also posted on independent Earthquake-Report.com. "Felt like a rumble, everyone ran outside, we all noticed on our street," said one from Ocean City. "Whole house started shaking, outside sounded like a bomb with slight shaking," said one from Little Egg Harbor. NBC News' Jim Gold and NBCPhiladelphia's Lauren DiSanto contributed to this story. usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/10/20/14580549-mystery-ground-shaking-rattles-south-jersey?lite

San Diego is the host city for MiraMar AFB, the Top Gun Training Squadron. The entire area is regulary shook when those birds are training.
I've personally experienced this when I was a performing an avionics maintenance contract there. Its awesome to experience, the ground trembling, the air moving around sans sonic booms.
And cool to watch the birds.

Blast but 'no bomb' in Pakistani cities
Explosion heard in two cities likely was caused by a sonic boom
updated 2:40 a.m. ET, Mon., June. 30, 2008
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - A loud blast alarmed residents and security officials in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, and nearby city of Rawalpindi on Monday but police later said it appeared it had been a sonic boom.
Residents of both cities heard a big blast just before 11 a.m. (1 a.m. ET).
"We have checked everywhere in Rawalpindi, all the main areas and hospitals, but there is nothing," a senior city police official said about 45 minutes after the blast was heard.
"It could have been a sonic boom but we are still investigating."
A Pakistani air force spokesmen said none of their aircraft had been over the city at the time of the blast.
A military official said there had been no bomb at any of the main military installations in Rawalpindi, the headquarters of the Pakistani army and the home of President Pervez Musharraf.
Militants have launched several bomb attacks in both Rawalpindi and Islamabad over the past year.
The Taliban militant commander held responsible for most of the attacks threatened on the weekend to retaliate for a government offensive against militants in a northwestern region on the Afghan border.

Case of mysterious Rhode Island beach blast solved JULY 24, 2015 / 3:31 PM / CBS/AP
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Scientists say the mysterious blast on a Rhode Island beach was very likely caused by the combustion of hydrogen gas built up because of a corroded copper cable under the sand.
The blast at Salty Brine beach in Narragansett was so strong that Kathleen Danise was hurled from her beach chair near the water line and thrown against a rock jetty 10 feet away. Danise, 60, of Waterbury, Connecticut, suffered two fractured ribs and bruises, her family said.
Witnesses that morning said they heard a rumbling and loud bang that sounded like a large firecracker, a grenade or a gas explosion, and noticed a sulfur or butane smell.
The blast left behind a rift in the sand and little else.
Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management Director Janet Coit announced the cause Friday, nearly two weeks after the blast sent a woman flying into a jetty.
ri-beach-blast-site-620.jpg Police at Salty Brine Beach in Narragansett, Rhode Island, where a mysterious explosion injured two people on Saturday, July 11, 2015. WPRI Coit says scientists at the University of Rhode Island pinpointed the cause to a hydrogen blast. An abandoned copper cable that was previously used by the U.S. Coast Guard ran under the sand.
"I'm grateful to the extraordinary scientists at URI, especially the team from the Graduate School of Oceanography, whose hard work led to this explanation," said Gov. Gina Raimondo.
Coit says scientists took core samples of the beach sand where the incident occurred and the sand at the site of the incident had unusually high levels of hydrogen.

The Unexplained Explosions of Island F
Brett Tingley
May 16, 2017
Mysterious or otherwise unexplained explosion noises and booms have been reported throughout the United States in 2017. Is secretive military testing to blame? Or could anomalous geological activity be the cause of these unidentified noises? Loud booms have been reported since long before the advent of air travel, after all. Whatever these mystery booms might be, they sure seem to be on the rise. The latest case of unexplained loud noises comes from the rural community of Sharps Chapel, Tennessee, where residents are reporting a spate of mysterious explosion noises that seem to have no identifiable cause.
Sharps Chapel is heavily forested and largely undeveloped.
The noises all seem to emanate from Island F, an island in Norris Lake not far from Rocky Top, Tennessee. The island is small, just a few miles across, and is uninhabited. Hunting and target shooting is popular in the area, but residents report that these noises sound different. Sharps Chapel community watch captain Tom McCaffery says the sound is unlike the usual gunfire heard throughout the rural area:
I have heard plenty of fireworks over my years, but never anything like this. The closest thing I can think of to the sound is cannon fire.
Local authorities speculate that some citizens are perhaps using homemade explosives for target practice, but have so far been able to find concrete proof. The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), an administrative body which oversees rural areas of Appalachia, has been investigating the noises at the request of local citizens.
No traces of explosions have been on the island.
According to TVA spokesman Jim Hopson, TVA investigators havenât found any clues that might explain the source of the explosions:
Theyâve gone to the island, searched the area and found no physical evidence to indicate any kind of explosion, including disturbed ground cover, holes or unusual debris.
Reports of phantom cannon-like booms along Americaâs east coast date back to at least the late 19th century when James Fenimore Cooper dubbed them âSeneca Guns.â Strangely, most of these reports occur near water, leading some geologists to suspect that they might be caused by large volumes of gas escaping bodies of water. With hydraulic fracking on the rise throughout the United States, itâs not entirely inconceivable that underground pockets of natural gasses are being disturbed at an unprecedented rate. Of course, there are any number of events both natural and man-made that could be the cause of these booms, sonic booms from military aircraft being the most likely candidate. Still, without an official explanation, the high frequency of these unexplained booms is a bit conspicuous.

This is interesting: Across the wide Atlantic Ocean and in the Southern Hemisphere, August â85 was proving to be a powerhouse of UFO activity in Chile. News agencies reported that the âbizarre auditive phenomenaâ in the skies above Santiago de Chile, the nationâs capital, âappeared to be linked to the UFO phenomenonâ. Three loud detonations â possible sky quakes â were heard over the city, with the military hastening to say that they were not related to army artillery practice or to sonic booms from aircraft. Not to be left behind, the weather bureau chimed in, saying that the phenomenon bore no relation whatsoever to meteorological events. Against all odds, it would an astronomer â Prof. Rodrigo de la Vega â who would champion the UFO option. He was quoted as saying: âIt is very likely that UFOs break the sound barrier much like aircraft do, as they fly at breakneck speed across the Earth.â Across the Andean Range, Argentina was sharing in the UFO sightings. Reports came in from the provinces of Chaco, Santa Fe, Cordoba and TucumĂĄn, describing sources of light projecting beams against the ground and fireballs colliding against the surface. The most significant of these occurred in San Pedro, a community north of TucumĂĄn on August 17 â the very same day that Santiago de Chile had been rocked by explosions of unknown origin. The San Pedro event was confirmed by residents of another community â Cafayate in Salta Province â who said the UFO exploded against the mountains with the sound one would expect from an airliner collision. nexusnewsfeed.com/article/unexplained/the-forgotten-ufo-wave-of-the-1980s/

The explorer, Augustine Courtauld, spent five months alone in Greenland. He was rescued on May 5, 1931 with his supplies nearly gone. Back in London on December 29th, he stated: "One day, while I was at the ice station, I heard a terrifying noise. It was like a tube train coming down a tunnel and getting nearer and nearer, and it ended in a great crash overhead. I could think of nothing to account for it.... The first time I went outside, I found that nothing had happened. That made it all the more mysterious. It was not a case of nerves for other people have noticed this phenomenon. Scientists say it is caused by a settling of masses of snow. It was most terrifying."
