"Howdy!...so ehh... where're ya'all from..?"
“The big bang, which is today posited as the origin of the world, does not contradict the divine act of creation; rather, it requires it,” the pope said in an address to a meeting at the pontifical academy of sciences.
“Evolution of nature is not inconsistent with the notion of creation because evolution presupposes the creation of beings which evolve.”
“When we read the creation story in Genesis we run the risk of imagining that God was a magician, with a magic wand which is able to do everything,” he said.
“But it is not so. He created beings and let them develop according to internal laws which He gave every one, so they would develop, so they would reach maturity.”
Francis, 77, said it was easy to misinterpret the creation story as recounted in the book of Genesis, according to which God created heaven and Earth in six days and rested on the seventh. The GuardianAt our family dinner table we tend to discuss such questions at length. Opinions abound, yet no conclusive answer. My thinking on the subject is that the present day Creationist views (the majority of literally Bible based voices seem American) are not truly based on the Bible but on the 17th century chronology of Irish Archbishop of Armagh, James Usher.
Guy to apply my simple mind seems to have added sequentially the periods (in nr of years) recorded in the Bible, and postulated any times not enumerated to arrive at a forced human and natural history neatly fitting within the accepted model of a near 7000 year old Earth, created by God in 6 days of the year 4004 BCE. Which is perfectly fine for the 17th century christened British Isles. However today we can consider how much weight to give to scientific findings on early civilizations existing millennia before said date, the merits of Evolutionary Theory and the fossil record continually exposing larger dinosaurs and 100.000's years earlier dates for the presence of Modern Humans as well as other versions of early humans, hominids and possible great ape forebears.
Could Genesis be like a story, myth or FABLE compiled by Jewish Lawgiver Moses (approx. 1300 BCE) from records he accessed in a Pharaoh's library, intended to pass on the ancients' insights in our ultimate origins? Schtuff not be taken literally, but to make us think about who we really are?
My take is that the hunan race as it evolved to gain control of this world and become the smartest cookie around (uhh..locally that is ), we began to imagine spirits and gods and God, and then hard-wired all of it into our brain, because faith ...WORKS... , and (now it gets weird) human spirituality functioned not as deadly delusion but as communicative link to another reality where God lives.
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Genesis 1:1 AKJV.

Hi AnonCat, absolutely love it! The article linked (thanks!) gives rise to my personal model of the universe, namely that I'd count myself lucky if I were a thousandth as smart as late Hawking. I'm having happy thoughts just at the idea of any us being able to reason at his level. From co-author Hertog's synopsis I get there's a tentative return to the Universe having not just a beginning but also some form of ending. And with an 'unknowable state' prior to that be BANGginning the door is open again to a God/Creator, or at least (seeing the hologram modelling) an Imaginative Consciousness having (what else) an outburst of creativity. (We're it!) Now I'd like to encourage any interested reader to go click on A Smooth Exit from Eternal Inflation? which I just read through and understood. Just Kidding. Wonderful to peruse down those brilliant pages anyhow. Anon, I remember reading some of my short stories/excerpts to our cats, and from the loud (my interpretation: enthusiastic!) meowing I consider myself a successful author. I now understand my cats better (reading Hawking's Smooth Exit). I also learned that the Multiverse is real, but 'smaller' than we expected thusfar. Mmmm..... purr ...yes..... .....yes... ..Got it!!.....

I'm glad you liked Purr!.. It is always good to know even the smallest part is part of something bigger..with room for multiverses and all.. That we get the clues of above from below..
