We often discuss finding alien life. We talk about interstellar travel and discuss how long does a civilization have to exist before their science can develop such technology. And then we look at humans..... The big questions are, "Will the human civilization survive long enough to develop such technology?" "How many civilizations kill themselves off before they develop such technology?"
Six million Jews
Seven million Soviets
Nearly two million Poles
Over 300,000 Serbs
A quarter million disabled citizens
Another 250,000 Gypsies
1900 Jehovah Witnesses
Hatred such as the world had never before witnessed
Babies ripped from their mothers arms
Children, grandparents, aunts uncles neighbors strangers brothers sisters
Gold-filled teeth
Shoes piled sky high
Traces of humanity yanked and pulled, stripped, tortured and experimented on
And yet,
Still there are a loathsome number that question the truth
Lucky the Nazis were such articulate record-keepers
Still today there is a rise to bigotry and anti-semitism
How one might exclaim that such atrocities looked upon as deeds well done befuddles this brain
How is it conceivable that such vitriolic hate is quietly accepted in the world at large
Hitler and his band of thugs might have been the most notorious
But sadly, they were not the final deciders of fate
In Chile there was the infamous Pinochet whose cruelty held no bounds
The genocide perpetrated upon the Rwandans
Cuba’s Castro systematic elimination and torture
Indonesia’s blood fest
Stalin’s starvation of three million Ukrainians
And before Hitler 1.5 million Armenians were starved to death and tortured
The Irish famine killed nearly a half a million
The shame of us is horrific
Man destroying man
Why?
As we embark upon 2020 hate and division grows more alarming with each new day
The question
The big question is
Will you
Will we
Stand silent
Will we fight injustice
Will we defend the defenseless
Will we protect the beleaguered
Are we better than this?
Will we stand shoulder to shoulder for the abused, the downtrodden, the hungry, the tortured, the wrongfully imprisoned?
Our time of reckoning
Of proving our unequaled hearts proclaiming justice for all is upon us
It’s time we join hands
Demonstrate our majesty
And do the right thing...
Oh Lady of the harbor
Beacon of liberty
Give courage to the masses
Light our way...
Let us rise from the fog
