Gort,
I am indeed pro America.
But I don't think that Trump is really interested beyond what it can do for him after he leaves office.
I've been watching as much of the recent questions etc as I can fit in.
Basically Dershowitz is saying..
If the President considers any action he takes will protect the US then it is ok for him to take this action even if it is illegal. But Trump has always claimed that he knows better than anyone else on any subject.
So if the president considers that his being in power is good for the country any action he takes is justified by National Security.
That would only leave him with the problem that he would be out in four years anyway. Not much he could do about that.
My only interest is why witnesses will not be allowed. We can make a good guess. But it isn't the president that is stopping them being called. It is the Republican Members. Your own people.
Sex with young women only becomes a problem when the woman is below the legal age of consent. Otherwise it is a purely moral argument. Monica was not a child.
I have no agenda, liberal or otherwise. But I am interesting in watching how the rules are being manipulated.
Tonight someone brought up Mike Pompeo saying that 'we have not to ask other countries to do what we can't do ourselves' This was, of course, a reference to Trump requesting Zelensky Via Giuliani) to 'dig up dirt' on his political opponent; Joe Biden.
But the government was happy to send suspected terrorists out of the country to be 'Questioned' in countries where the rules are, how shall we put it...more relaxed. This was done because the methods used are illegal in the USA.
It is a very engrossing show. I do wonder that the two questions the Chief Justice refused to answer were.

Trump has all the money he wants, he donates his presidential salary but you did't know that.
Biden is so corrupt as is Hillary and her deep state. Trump is trying to restore honesty to the American system of justice, but you would not want that?

Looks like your guy is going to win. You know, it is interesting that we can even discuss this. In a few hours the UK is getting out of the EU; and on another site I follow we are not even allowed to mention it. Nor were we allowed to mention it when we changed Prime Ministers. Politics, you see. Apparently it tends to heat the blood and destroys forums. Anyway, all the best to you with the results. HAL (two typos corrected)

Impeachment has to be bipartisan otherwise either party can impeach the president on a partisan basis, which is what occurred here in this instance. Next the Republicans could’ve dismissed this almost immediately. But at least people got to hear ad nauseam the Democrat perspective. It simply boils down to the assertion that Trump used his influence to taint a Democrat possible rival. But it has been pointed out that a president taking action that is beneficial to the country and beneficial to his political future cannot be dissected for impeachment. Biden on the other hand clearly abused his power as vice president and should he become president we would have a deep state corrupt president. Furthermore if Trump had asserted his influence such that there was no benefit to the country, only to his political future, a bipartisan impeachment would’ve occurred. As has been pointed out you cannot ascribe a percentage but had not Biden so plainly abused his power and bragged about it the Democrats would’ve had a stronger argument.

Gort, .. The sky is blue but you say its red... Not even close. But which of the red States will be blue in a few months ? Something interesting has come out at the last minute. consider this. The White House Council have completely refused to accept further evidence. The prime giver of evidence that Democrats want to question under oath is John Bolton. Why ? Well, Bolton (it seems) was in the room when Trump specifically requested Julianni to get dirt on Biden. But there is more. It appears others were privy to the conversation. Mick Mulvaney and ....Pat Cipolonne. And why is Cipolonne so important ? He is one of the white House council who are presenting the White House case in the Senate right now. Yet, he is a witness. He is one of the people who know what was said. If the WH is forced to allow Bolton to testify, then one of the first things Bolton will be asked is 'Who else was in the room at the time. And Bolton, under oath, will have to call out Cipollone. Can't you now see why they are so desperate not to allow Bolton to testify ? If there was no talk about getting dirt then Cipollone would jump at the idea of Bolton testifying. It would exonerate Trump in one swoop. Instead he is blocking the person who he fears most would force himself to have to answer questions. The idea of a witness being allowed as part of the legal team is so far from the 'honesty' you suggest Trump is striving for it is virtually beyond comprehension. But it seems fairly certain the case will be thrown out anyway. 'Yes, we all know he is guilty as hell....but who really cares. As long as he keeps borrowing more money and printing more to pay the interest.' HAL.

Luvey,
..All through this, first the Russia Collusion hoax..
But trump admitted that the Russians probably did it. Have you forgotten that.
The guy is a liar. Everyone knows it. He has over ten thousand lies and misleading statements to his name since came into office. All fact checked. We all heard them from himself on live tv.
Would you allow a member of your own family into your home if they lied like that; if you simply could not believe a word they said ?

Hal, You hit the nail squarely on the head. Everyone in DC knows Drumpf tried to coerce...bribe...pressure...(pick your own word) the Ukraine Pres. The GOP members want to get re-elected...that's the politics of it, period. So nothing will happen to Drumpf. If this was a Dem president who pulled the same stunt...the GOP would be out for his blood...not just impeachment. Can you say hypocrisy...? Farce is right....and it's from the Right. And imho anyone who doesn't understand this simply doesn't care about the truth.

Where are the infrastructure projects? High speed railways etc.
Ah well. Soon be election time.

$6 Bil Vanishes From State Dept. Under Hillary Clinton.. Look! over there. A bright shiny object. Peter Schweizer Unveils the Layers of Corruption Behind the Biden Family.. And there is another one. Luvey, and Gort, The above don't matter. There is plenty of time to investigate other things. The only thing really of consequence here is the lying. and the refusal to present witnesses. Interesting that Pompeo was with Zelenski for part of the last week. Anyway, it is more or less over. No doubt Dershowitz will be getting a very nice Christmas card from Trump this year. Any predictions for the election ? HAL.

..Furthermore, the House witnesses were all on the Democrat side, with Republican witnesses having been blocked...
Bolton, Mulvaney, Gulianni and Cipolonni were witnesses and all are Republican.
So why were they not called, in fact , why were they blocked ?
With Cipolonni it is fairly obvious.

Again spot on.....the GOP know darn well our Potus is guilty of coercion , obstruction, etc...they simply don't care ,and there is no way they are going to let Bolton or Mulvaney spill the beans and tell the truth. Forget politics for a second....If one has nothing to hide then one isn't afraid of what someone has to say.

Anyway, it's more or less all over. May be a surprise in the vote; but probably not.
Next big thing will be the election.
I was watching the closing statements. Then Team Trump put up Ken Starr. And after his first ten minutes of historical name dropping I gave up on it. I'll catch the commentaries later tonight.

Michael Coudrey @michaelcoudrey · 1h There were a total of 12 individuals who saw Anthony Weiner’s laptop computer, which contained incriminating information on Hillary Clinton and other powerful individuals in the United States.
9 of those 12 people, including the NYPD officers, are dead now.
