Gort, Hate to push this, but you still haven't explaind why they won't allow the four witnesses. If there is no problem, why not allow them and then the Republicans can say ' so, now you have heard from them'. The question with reference to the whistle blower can't be 'contrived' as what the whistle blower claims is showing to be true. And Trump isn't denying it. He is simply claiming that it isn't wrong. Not enough to impeach him. And who says the Russian collusion failed ? Not Mueller. He stated that he couldn't say the President wasn't guilty. Not the same as saying he was innocent. It will be interesting to watch the rest of the inquiry unfold. It was not Mueller’s direction to prove innocence but rather to indict Trump which he could not do after millions of dollars, two years investigating and probing without any evidence of collusion. What a waste. The Senate does not have to provide witnesses. This was the responsibility of the House of Representatives.

Gort,
Thanks for the response.
Although I don't agree with many of your views, I do find them interesting and respect them.
I notice that you mention 'And democrats expect free stuff'.
This got me thinking. What 'free stuff' do I get from my government. By the way, I vote on issues, not party. Unless I vote tactically to prevent a party with issues I don't support getting in.
I get my state pension. Which I have contributed to all my working life. So that isn't really free.
I get a free bus pass. Allows me to travel by bus anywhere in England. but as the buses are rarely full after 10 AM then I am not depriving anyone of a seat.
I (hopefully) will get my first free TV license in a few days. But this is paid for from the tv licensing fees of other viewers.
Free medical attention at point of service. Not really free as it comes from my taxes. I do, of course, still have to pay VAT like anyone else on most goods. Currently 20% . 5% on my gas and electricity.
I still pay Council tax on my house. But at a reduced rate due to being a pensioner (hate that word, and 'Senior Citizen).
But generally, not much is truly free.
It is interesting that you were once a Democrat supporter, but changed your thinking.
I not that Alan Dershowich once said that Impeachment didn't need a crime. Now he says it does.
How times change.(along with the president at the time).

Luvey,
..The government here stopped the TV licences way back in the 70s.... I was surprised to learn that its only recently that it stopped in Britain...
It hasn't stopped. The cost is £147 per year. It is deemed necessary as it funds the BBC. If the license fund was not there then the BBC would have to resort to advertising.
From what I can make out, the Democrats are really stuck on one witness demand by the Republicans. That is that they produce the whistle blower. And for reasons I outline above, they can never do that.
Today's presentation by the Republicans was interesting.

it was pretty late over here in the UK as well. Five hour time difference.
But the whole defense was 'look over here; this shiny thing..'. You'll notice they missed out all the conversations pertaining to the phone call. and the misdirecting was astounding.
For example they were singing the praises of Ambassador Yovanovich. But they never mentioned she was pulled out of Ukraine. The latest phone video may have interesting repercussions.
But, it's not my government and not directly my problem. Albeit it does impinge upon us all.
It makes good opera. But it is deadly serious.

Luvey,
..From what I can gather in comments under videos and news articles is that there may well be a civil war if Trump is kicked out of office...
That is a Trump dog whistle. He put it out a couple of years ago when he said that if he isn't re-elected the masses will rise against the government. and that was long before the Ukraine thing was even on the horizon.
Just watched the first part of tonight's presentations. Kenneth Starr seems intent on dropping as many historical names as possible whilst sending the court to sleep.
But I did pick up where he said that committing a crime should not be a reason for impeaching or removing a president. So we can see what the approach will be. 'so what if he did it ?'. He can do what he wants.'
Anyway, I'll catch up with it later.
As for Dershowitz, he will be chewed up in any later questioning. He has changed his view on something very important.

So Starr said even if a crime was done it's not worthy of impeachment...? Really..? And that's the same guy who tried to impeach Clinton for lying about a blow job. LMAO....ya gotta love these people. One wonders what kind of deals 'his crew' will get when this is all over.

Gort,
..Clinton - it wasn't about a bj, it was about the man's judgement, honesty and character...
Aw come on buddy. I can't believe you can ascribe judgement, honest and character to Trump.
Clinton lied and was caught lying. Trump lies on a monumental scale. How can anyone believe a single statement he makes ?
He says the Ukrainian president said there was no Quid pro Quo. How could Zelensky ever say anything else ? It's like the police coming to a business and saying 'we hear the mob have been putting pressure on you, is this true ?.
Of course they are going to say no. What choice is there ?
Come on man.
Let's say I break into you home and steal something. I am brought before the courts and the prosecution says there is video evidence of me doing so. My council tells the court 'No, can't admit that. My client was accused before the video was known about (and it will obviously show he is guilty). Can't admit that'.
This is what is happening.
It's ridiculous.

Hal, also, I find the Clinton/Epstein disturbing. He (Clinton)has already demonstrated a predilection for young women with Mónica. Now he is even more careful. Blue dress. So, say you Hal? I’m sure you don’t condone sex with minors?Okay, I think I see some confusion here.
Even though Trump may seem abrasive, impolite, etc. this is his style. So don’t confuse style with agenda. Somebody like Hillary can impose a perfect agenda (in her mind) with a slick style, but a warped agenda. Same as all these impeachment tribals Nadler Shiff etc. So while you may disagree with Trump style his agenda nonetheless is pro-American. And if you are pro-American even though you reside in the UK, you should put your liberal agenda aside because Trump is helping America. That I would think would be an overriding factor.
