Just reread that, Swamprat, it's a nice piece. So, if we made it to another Earth-like planet, and it had sentient inhabitants, yet they were less advanced than us, how to deal with them if at all? I think we should tread softly, a bit like Star Trek's First Directive. Leave them be (and make a note to revisit in a few centuries). Because the meeting between more and less (tech) advanced cultures tends to turn out bad for the 'lesser' participant. Like the Europeans exploring/colonizing the Americas and Australia, 'making our acquaintance' quickly turning into conquest, ending cultures and (near) genocide of the native peoples. purr

We should stay in our solar system, so we could mature and learn not to be hostile with our selves, this planet .... our attitude can lead us into trouble with what ever or who is out there. Welcome Aj6, I agree on the need for time to mature (and arguably we've had a few 100,000s of years, and are getting less deadly ) but that said, Earth has several hot wars going on, most notably Ukraine fighting its heart out against Russia's 'special operation' / attempted land grab. To any Aliens observing us from space or already walking among us it does not look good. We must come across as the type of 'troublemakers' you don't want to know. On the bright side, we may learn from making war, from a human history rife with wars, it is no fun to lose one. And if ever ET makes their acquaintance after crossing space from their solar system, it seems a fair assumption they will be technologically way beyond us and too big a dog to mess with. Making war with them would be the mother of bad ideas. Imo the realistic solution would be for Mankind to advance our own tech at best possible speed. So we can negotiate from strength when the day comes and visitors officially make first contact. And be Friendly of course, plus avoid making too much noise for now... attract attention to ourselves...

They (the observers) must have higher standards of morality and ethics. They haven't invaded us or subverted us ( from my view point ). For all you know, they could be protecting us from an aggressive species or protecting lesser developed species from us .... or both. Avatar is a good example of how our Modern Oligarchic / Corporate Heirstocracy would deal with a lesser developed culture, much like the European Invasion of the America's. And with this new Global Chaotic Plutocratic / Kleptotocracy trying to induce anti intellectualism amoung the lower cast of subjects / serfs .... any Intelligent Life Form .... would avoid diplomatic contact or intellectual exchange with Humanity.

SHALOM...ZFor them not to invade us or eliminate us, demonstrated an intellect with discipline and control over impediments such as greed, a lust for killing or manipulation. That is what I believe, but that doesn't make it fact or fiction.
