Chinese solar-powered drone Morning Star spreads its wings in successful test flight
Development of new materials gives aircraft wing a weight of less than 20kg
Morning Star could be sold into military and civilian markets
PUBLISHED : Wednesday, 31 October, 2018, 11:30pm UPDATED : Thursday, 01 November, 2018, 1:02am
China has successfully test-flown the Morning Star, a solar-powered drone designed to remain in the air for months.
Developer Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) announced that the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), which has a 20-metre (66-foot) wingspan, attained and cruised at an altitude of more than 20,000 metres (66,000 feet).
“With the development and first flight, in addition to a great number of ground, wind tunnel and scale model tests … a solid foundation has been laid for follow-up development,” AVIC said. “We will move quickly towards large-scale, heavy load and long endurance solar-powered UAVs.”
The main wing structure had an “impossibly superlight” weight of 18.9kg (42lbs), it said, thanks to a new material development.
AVIC did not reveal details of the test, but said it followed an endurance flight of a 10-metre wingspan prototype Morning Star in September. In that test, the aircraft flew autonomously for about five hours.
The high-altitude, long-endurance aircraft could serve as an alternative to satellites and carry out military tasks including reconnaissance, navigation and telecommunications transport.
Developers say the Morning Star has great potential for civilian markets in roles as environmental monitoring, communications and maritime patrols.
The leading solar-powered UAV is Airbus’ Zephyr, described by the manufacturer as a high-altitude pseudo-satellite.
In August, the 25-metre-wide (82-foot-wide) Zephyr S – which weighs 75kg (165lbs)– took the endurance flight record to nearly 26 days at an altitude of 21,300 metres (70,000 feet). It has gone into mass production with annual capacity of about 30 vehicles.
AVIC’s 20-metre demonstrator began production at the end of 2017 and was completed in July.
Beside’s AVIC, several other Chinese institutions such as China Aerospace Science & Industry Corporation and China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation are also working on similar projects, aiming to create a telecommunication network based on UAVs.

Good morning lovely UFOCasebookers

UFO Investigator: Long Island Sightings Soar
Joseph Flammer
October 31, 2018
Editor’s note: Joseph Flammer is a field investigator with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).
Attendees to my lectures usually want to hear about Unidentified Flying Object events that allegedly occurred decades ago, but I like to steer their attention to more recent sightings, especially around Mount Misery on the Nassau-Suffolk border.
The haunting UFO incidents that typically make people in my audiences shudder include the reputed spaceship crash in Suffolk County’s Southaven County Park in Shirley in 1992, the alleged shoot-down of an alien craft over Moriches Bay off Center Moriches in 1989, and the supposed secretive UFO-linked Montauk Project thought-projection experiments at Camp Hero in Montauk in the 1970s and early 1980s. But I stress to people that UFO activity on Long Island is ongoing. It’s especially pronounced in the Melville-West Hills area, where new UFO cases are reported every year to the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) as UFO sightings, and where ghost are known to haunt unabashedly — a common trait of UFO hotbeds.
“The UFO was triangular with three bright lights, one at each tip, and it was moving towards Mount Misery,” recalls Emily Blinder, 64, of South Huntington, revisiting the exact spot where, she says, she saw a UFO on West Hills Road, after filing a sighting report about seeing the craft on a cold, dark January 2017 night. The report she filed with MUFON comes to me because I was one of the licensed MUFON Field Investigators covering the area.
“It was moving slowly over the trees,” Blinder continues. “It was only about 55 feet away.”
Curiously, Blinder says she spotted the unidentified aerial phenomenon near Walt Whitman’s birthplace in West Hills. The location is near the infamous West Hills Nature Preserve on Sweet Hollow Road, a place where Whitman often walked and where trails are named after him.
The preserve is located at the base of storied Mount Misery, a hill with a summit nearly 400 feet high and a base covering an area of about a mile in any direction. It is a place where UFOs were allegedly seen so regularly in the woods in the 1960s that John A. Keel devoted a whole chapter to the sightings and high strangeness in his 1975 book, Mothman Prophecies, and where ghosts and strange creatures reportedly appear to this day.
“I sat in my car at the stop sign and just watched the UFO,” says Blinder, a retired insurance customer service representative who admits feeling uneasy whenever she is near Mount Misery because, like a lot of people, she believes the woods are haunted. “Then I followed it as best I could, but it moved off to Mount Misery and was gone.”
Blinder describes the craft she saw for at least 30 seconds as having “no exhaust signature nor wings — and was silent.”
According to Cheryl Costa, who cowrote UFO Sightings Desk Reference: United States of America 2001-2015 with her wife Linda Miller Costa, Suffolk County led New York state in the number of UFO sightings during the 2001-2015 period, with a total of 554. Nassau County ranked fourth in the state, with a total of 276 reported sightings.
“An area with a larger population tends to have more sightings than a less populated area,” says Costa. “That’s how it usually works.”
Last year’s U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) release of three videos of Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets pursuing UFOs in 2015 may be the most alarming of all reported sightings. The DOD admitted that more than a dozen such UFO chases have occurred over the East Coast since 2015, and nobody knows what’s flying the objects or why.
People ask me if these UFOs are secretive government craft or alien in nature.
I tell them, “It’s not my job to say what they are, only to report that they’ve been seen.”
I’m hoping the government soon discloses the truth about what it knows so we can know, too. Not knowing is getting old.

Good morning, good morning,

Aussie UFO fans gear up for talk from Kiwi who says he spent 10 days in an alien civilisation
ALEC Newald says he was abducted by aliens and taken to an extraterrestrial civilisation for 10 days. Here’s what he claims happened.
by Ben Graham news.com.au November 2, 20184:12pm
IT WAS a normal Monday morning in February 1989 when Alec Newald set off on a three-hour drive to Auckland from Rotorua in New Zealand’s volcanic heart.
However, what the 70-year-old Kiwi claims to have experienced on that journey changed his perception of the universe forever.
Mr Newald says he was taken by extraterrestrials to an advanced civilisation and stayed there for 10 days.
After passing through a winding, foggy mountain route, he arrived in Auckland feeling tired and confused.
However, he was even more confused to learn that Monday was now Thursday — 10 days later — and he had no idea how he had lost those days.
In a talk at Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club in Sydney’s west this Saturday, Mr Newald will reveal exactly what he believes happened in those days — claiming his experience with the “friendly beings” has “profound implications for all of us here on earth”.
Authoring a book called Co-Evolution and talking to global UFO media outlets since his experience in 1989, the Kiwi has set out what he experienced.
Speaking on American UFO and paranormal radio show As You Wish talk radio, he recalled the moment he was “plucked” from that winding mountain road.
“I was like what the hell is going on here?” he said. “I was driving the car and it felt like a tonne of bricks had landed on me, like someone had poured cement on me. I felt like I was pushed into the seat of that car.
“I was paralysed, I couldn’t turn the wheel or apply the brakes or do anything.”
He says he was zooming down the road at 100km/h towards a cliff face at the time and he braced for the impact.
Then he said he woke in a “cavernous” space filled with flashing neon blue lights. He was convinced he was dead, as he believed he was in spirit form and he was experiencing the afterlife.
He claims to have never even thought about UFOs before that point and to have never taken drugs.
“I’m just like a wispy ghost with no form at all,” he said. “I found I could manoeuvre myself by moving my consciousness forward or sideways.”
Surrounded by other “spirit forms”, it was then that he claims to have felt a “tap on the shoulder”.
Here’s how Mr Newald describes what happened next in his book.
“Looking up, I realised we were being approached by three aliens, the tallest of them looking like my escort from earlier on,” he wrote.
“The second one was just a little shorter and was male as far as I could tell. The third was smaller, much smaller, and walked ahead of the other two.
“He, for want of a better word was slightly built with a roundish head and rather unusual, squinty eyes which were well spaced and placed rather lower down than are our own.

Oumuamua may have been extra terrestial after all say astronomers
Mysterious interstellar asteroid could be a solar sail from wrecked alien probe, astronomers say Published time: 3 Nov, 2018 05:11 Edited time: 3 Nov, 2018 06:23 Get short URL Mysterious interstellar asteroid could be a solar sail from wrecked alien probe, astronomers say © Reuters / Handout Interstellar mystery rock Oumuamua might have been part of an alien reconnaissance mission, according to two Harvard Smithsonian astronomers who saw in the strange object signs it could be a light-driven probe.
As the strange rock moved out of our solar system last September, it sped up instead of slowing down as would be expected. Observers dismissed the acceleration as the result of a release of gas from within the rock, but astronomers Shmuel Bialy and Abraham Loeb are rethinking the whole matter, reasoning that if Oumuamua had merely been a comet undergoing outgassing, the release would have set the object to spinning. Instead, it remained flat, and the astronomers believe that could be by design. Read more [block]Dawn was the first spacecraft to orbit a celestial body between Mars and Jupiter. © NASA/JPL-Caltech Breaking Dawn: NASA’s asteroid belt mission runs out of fuel
Oumuamua could be “powered” by the force exerted on its surface by sunlight, Bialy and Loeb concluded. Such a means of “power” would allow, say, an alien probe to travel far into the universe with nothing but light needed to fuel it. While there’s a possibility that the object is merely an abnormally thin, extremely large naturally-occurring piece of interstellar rock – it didn’t emit any radio signals detectable by human instruments – they speculate that it could be a defunct light-sail, space detritus fallen from a long-gone ship.

Bialy and Loeb are serious about the possibility Oumuamua might have been deliberately constructed by extraterrestrials. Loeb calculated that for it to be a random object following a random orbit, there would have to be 100 million times more of its type hanging around in the solar system.
Their calculations also indicate that it’s the perfect thickness to withstand collisions with space dust, gas, and planetary forces without adding so much mass to render it incapable of sailing. And it looks and acts a lot like the Starshot Initiative and the IKAROS project, both of which humans built to do pretty much the same thing the astronomers think Oumuamua was doing.
