Pompeo's Congratulations Tweet To Taiwan President Sparks Outrage With ChinaTaiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen was sworn in on Wednesday for a second presidential term amid worsening ties with China. US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo tweeted congratulations on Tuesday ahead of the ceremony, which led China to denounce Pompeo's message as "wrong and very dangerous," reported Bloomberg.
www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/pompeos-congratulations-tweet-taiwan-president-sparks-outrage-china
The Ministry of National Defense released a statement Wednesday that said the People's Liberation Army (PLA) would "take all necessary measures to firmly safeguard" China's sovereignty, while the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Pompeo's comments "seriously violated" the one-China principle.
"China urges the US side to immediately correct its mistakes," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement. "The Chinese side will take necessary countermeasures to respond to the above-mentioned erroneous actions by the US side. And the US side should bear the consequences arising therefrom."Washington has carefully refrained from recognizing Taipei's government in the past. What triggered China into a fit of rage this week is Pompeo's tweet that recognized Tsai as president and called Taiwan a "force for good in the world and a reliable partner."Tsai told China to "find a way to co-exist" with Taiwan's democratic government as her second term in Taipei will start on Wednesday. Tsai's Democratic Progressive Party supports Taiwan's independence from China and seeks additional measures to reduce reliance on China while increasing relations with the US. With cross-strait relations and Sino-US diplomatic relations plunging to the lowest levels in quite some time, we recently noted how China's "military leaders are pushing for a substantial increase in their budget to be announced at the National People's Congress that starts on Friday, arguing that the world's largest standing army needs more resources to cope with volatile challenges at home and overseas. And at the top of the list, according to the South China Morning Post, is the growing confrontation with the US.""With China-US relations sinking amid a trade war, spats over civil liberties and Taiwan, and conflicts over Beijing's territorial claims in the South China Sea, recent months have added accusations between Washington and Beijing about the origins of the Covid-19 pandemic. From Beijing's viewpoint, the military threats are surfacing on its doorstep with US bombers running about 40 flights over contested areas of the South China and East China seas so far this year, or more than three times the number in the same period of 2019. US Navy warships have sailed four "freedom of navigation operations" in the area in the same period, compared with eight in all of last year."
To make matters worse, the Communist Party's Global Times not only denounced Pompeo's tweet but warned that PLA has the capability to "overwhelm the Taiwan military and deter the US military."
"China is becoming more powerful, and our ability to claim sovereignty over Taiwan is certainly growing," the Global Times said. "At this time, the US and Taiwan want to play petty tricks at a low cost, which is too naive. We will make them feel pain in some places that they can't think of." In November, we noted how Taiwan warned if China's economy crashes, the threat of a Chinese invasion would be on the horizon.
"If the internal stability is a very serious issue, or economic slowdown has become a very serious issue for the top leaders to deal with, that is the occasion that we need to be very careful," Taiwan's Foreign Minister Joseph Wu said late last year.
"We need to prepare ourselves for the worst situation to come...military conflict," Wu warned.
Because of a virus pandemic and crashed economies across the world, cross-Strait relations and increasing tensions in the South China Sea are likely to be seen in 2H20. SHALOM...Z

Thrash Metal Drummer Awakens from Coronavirus Coma, Doesn't Think Satan Is That Cool Anymore Will Carroll of Death Angel says, “I don’t think Satan’s quite as cool as I used to.”

As the coronavirus pandemic continues, researchers are discovering new symptoms and side effects of the disease. Some people who have recovered from COVID-19 are still reporting lingering chest pain and shortness of breath, and in some cases people are reporting a rash disgustingly referred to as "COVID toes." And in at least one case, the novel coronavirus has caused visions of a Dante-like trip to Hell.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle's Datebook, the thrash metal band Death Angel was in Europe for a tour in early March when the outbreak went global. They cancelled the tour and headed back to the U.S., but on the flight back drummer Will Carroll started showing symptoms. After testing positive, he spent 12 days in a medically induced coma. When he finally woke up on March 30, the staff at California Pacific Medical Center applauded. "(The medical staff) couldn’t believe it," he told the Chronicle. "They were ecstatic because it was a success story."
Carroll had more reason to celebrate, not just because he was returning to good health, but because those 12 days were full of some pretty upsetting visions. Per the Chronicle:
"While in the coma, Carroll said he had dreams of visiting the afterlife. He saw himself leave his body and plummet down to hell, where Satan—a woman in his case—punished him for the deadly sin of sloth, morphing him into a Jabba the Hutt-like-monster who vomited blood until he had a heart attack. "I woke up on the hospital bed with tubes coming in and out of me, and there was a nurse right there and my first words were, 'Am I still in hell?'" Carroll said. "She ignored me."
It takes a very professional nurse to take a patient rambling about hell in stride. In Carroll's case though, the experience has him reevaluating some things. "I’m still going to listen to satanic metal, and I still love Deicide and bands like that," he told the Chronicle. "As far as for my personal life and my experience of what I went through, I don’t think Satan’s quite as cool as I used to."

UFO Subreddit Was Subject to Systemic Censorship
The moderators of Reddit’s UFO community automatically censored posts referring to ‘Brazil,’ ‘Navy,’ and ‘Pentagon.’
by Matthew Gault May 21 2020, 5:00am
It’s a great time to get into UFOs. The US Navy officially published three previously seen, but unconfirmed, videos of unidentified flying objects. Journalists have dug up incident reports of Navy pilots interactions with strange objects flying in the sky. Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid believes in aliens. But at the height of the recent revelations from the Navy and Pentagon, /r/UFOs—Reddit’s premier gathering place for all things UFO—was automatically blocking posts that used the words “Navy” or “Pentagon,” and was also deleting posts about a recent incident in Brazil.
This censorship has led to infighting on the subreddit. /r/UFO moderator axolotl_peyotl cried foul when he noticed other moderators culling posts with the word “Brazil” days after people filmed a UFO above Magé. “A huge number of people saw lights in the sky [of] Magé, and nobody is talking about it now. Yesterday, it was even on the Trending Topics, but now, it seems like everyone forgot,” redditor monaizin asked.
The moderators were aggressively culling posts about the incident. “I see a lot of stupidity in this thread, so let me just make it absolutely clear: mods here do not censor. If a post is stupid or offensive it will be removed. If it is a hoax, we'll remove it,” a moderator said in the thread.
But the community and at least one other moderator disagreed. “The other day I started to get a flood of private messages and username notifications regarding censorship of an alleged UFO event in Brazil on /r/ufos,” moderator axolotl_peyotl told Motherboard in an email. “When I was informed that comments and threads with ‘Brazi’" were ‘disappearing’ on /r/ufos, I immediately thought to check the automod settings.”
When axolotl_peyotl checked the automod, he found that ‘Brazil’ had recently been added to the list of restricted words. “I could also see the history of the edits on the spam filter. And not only that, one of the /r/ufos mods had been ‘tweaking’ the automod on a daily basis for a very long time,” axolotl_peyotl said. “Even more surprisingly, included in the spam filter were words like ‘moon’, ‘pentagon’ and ‘navy,’ with the latter two having been added 17 days ago...when the Navy admits to having and then actually releases UFO footage, a healthy UFO forum does not then add the word ‘navy’ to the spam filter.”
After browsing around more, axolotl_peyotl said he found the thread where a moderator called the community stupid. “I've made boatloads of mistakes in the past, but I would never write a comment like that, and any /r/conspiracy mod spouting that rhetoric would undoubtedly face repercussions,” they said. “You DO NOT call your community stupid. Ever. It's a cardinal sin, really. I'm unequivocally dedicated to the well-being and health of my community, full stop.”
axolotl_peyotl called out the mods and formally requested they have their privileges revoked. “I'm willing to give these individuals the benefit of the doubt: they likely believe themselves to be well-meaning and operating with the best intentions for this sub,” they said. “Unfortunately, the will of the community here no longer reflects the vision of the mod team, hence the need to address these issues head on.”
With the blessing of the community and support from other mods, axolotl_peyotl removed the mods who called the /r/ufo community stupid and auto-censored words like ‘Brazil’ and ‘Pentagon.’ Now, /r/UFOs is looking for new moderators, and the front page of the subreddit now includes posts that reference terms once automatically removed. Just this once, it looks like censorship lost.

Mysterious flying object lighting up sky in central Victoria believed to be space junk
22 May 2020
Eagle-eyed Central Victorians were abuzz after a fireball moved across the night sky on Friday.
Experts said the bright flying object was most likely a piece of space junk that was burning up after entering the Earth's atmosphere. .
The bright object was spotted in Bendigo moving east towards Daylesford and beyond.
It could also be seen from parts of northern Tasmania.
Professor of Astrophysics at the University of Southern Queensland Jonti Horner said the slow speed of the object pointed to the likelihood it was space junk.
"The slow speed, about 6 kilometres per second, is a very telltale sign that it is space junk," he said.
The flying object could also be seen from northern Tasmania, including Devonport. (Supplied: Luka van de Wolfshaar)
Possible link to Russian rocket launch
He said extra-terrestrial material such as fragments of a comet or asteroid would move much more quickly.
Professor Horner said it was possible the object was part of a rocket used to launch a Russian satellite several hours earlier.
"Astronomy is a detective story, it's very cool, I love seeing things like this."
He said the object would likely burn up high in the atmosphere but there was a chance some small pieces might make it to the ground.
Perry Vlahos from the Astronomical Society of Victoria agreed the object could have been be part of a Russian rocket.
"Because of the slow speed and shallow angle, and the fact it is disintegrating in the video suggests it was something in orbit like a small satellite," he said.
"It's still considered space junk because it was in space, it's re-entering the atmosphere and burning up," he said.

Massive disk galaxy could change our understanding of how galaxies are born
By Chelsea Gohd - Space.com 22 May 2020
A massive, rotating disk galaxy that first formed just 1.5 billion years after the Big Bang, could upend our understanding of galaxy formation, scientists suggest in a new study.
In traditional galaxy formation models and according to modern cosmology, galaxies are built beginning with dark-matter halos. Over time, those halos pull in gases and material, eventually building up full-fledged galaxies. Disk galaxies, like our own Milky Way, form with prominent disks of stars and gas and are thought to be created in a method known as "hot mode" galaxy formation, where gas falls inward toward the galaxy's central region where it then cools and condenses.
This process is thought to be fairly gradual, taking a long time. But the newly discovered galaxy DLA0817g, nicknamed the "Wolfe Disk," which scientists believe formed in the early universe, suggests that disk galaxies could actually form quite quickly.

In a new study led by Marcel Neeleman of the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Germany, researchers spotted the Wolfe Disk using ALMA, the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array in Chile. They found out that the object was a large, stable rotating disk, clocking in at a whopping 70 billion times the mass of our sun.
In the new observations, the disk appears as it was when the universe was just 1.5 billion years old, or 10% of its current age. The disk appears extremely massive and stable for something so young. So how could such a massive galaxy form so quickly, so early in the universe?
