I'm not on X, SysConfig (only monitored Twitter to get my early morning Trump tweets 100% fresh from that CIC's bedroom many years ago) but with help of Google I understood one of our NATO commanders was caught doing a little moonlighting. Witnessing the introduction of the factory new F-35 Joint Strike Fighter to Dutch skies (here flanked by a venerable F-16 Fighting Falcon wingman) a decade or so ago. I'm so happy you love your country, Crystal, it's a breath of fresh air compared to the current negativity over sitting pres Biden's supposed cognition problems and how this might play out election wise and in the perception of national adversaries. I'm from a family that instilled profound appreciation of our friends across the pond virtually with our mother's milk. Both my parents' and grandparents' generation passed through WWII in Nazi occupied Netherlands and were acutely aware (with endless horror/Dr Phil-UNAPPROVED stories to tell over almost every traditional meat, boiled potatoes+legumes+gravy dinner) not forgetting the happy ending with us getting 'liberated' with Canadians, Brits and Americans in military vehicles in the streets along with celebrating crowds of the grateful Dutch! To our minds, Americans are the people that came over to fight and give their lives so we might be free. This history binding the fates of Europeans and Americans together never ended. Who cares if the next president is Biden, Harris, Michelle Obama or Donald Trump: here POTUS automatically is a 'friendly' president. To end, I couldn't post on it when it was happening. 'Some' time ago, recently the skies over my neighborhood was abuzz with C-130's (at one point 9 in a row vibrating the rooftops), we also saw Blackhawks, lots and lots of Apache helicopters, also flights of F-35s with their distinctive deep pop-pop-pop rumble on strangely low and slow practice maneuvers, one lonely Chinook, presumably Royal Dutch Air Force and USAF getting the aid to Ukraine well underway. Looking up at these amazing machines I was so proud, so pleased. Because when called upon, now 75+ years later, we still work together to make the world a better place...  purr
Over in the Netherlands, no matter who turns out to be president, they are always considered our 'dog'. |
