World UFO Day 2018: How close have we actually got to finding aliens, and what would they be like?
Josh Gabbatiss 2 July 2018
As another World UFO Day comes around, many will welcome the opportunity to muse about advanced alien life forms jetting across the universe in bizarre spacecraft.
While the existence of UFOs is not a conventional topic of scientific research, there is no shortage of scientists searching for extra-terrestrial life.
In recent months, exciting announcements have emerged from the world’s biggest space agencies that have provided some of the most tantalising hints yet that alien life may be lurking in our own solar system.
Data gathered by Nasa’s Curiosity rover allowed scientists to identify evidence of ancient organic matter on the surface of Mars. These “ingredients for life” suggest the red planet may not have always been as lifeless as it is today.

World UFO Day: Six mysterious British encounters which ‘prove’ aliens have visited us
Rob Waugh Monday 2 Jul 2018 12:32 pm
It’s World UFO Day today, so we’re dusting off our tinfoil hats and looking at the times little green men absolutely, definitely visited Britain. Surprisingly, it’s not all weirdoes claiming to have been abducted and ‘probed’ up the bum on lonely motorways. In fact, there’s several well-documented encounters with lots of witnesses – some of which sound very spooky indeed. From the 1980 Rendlesham Forest Incident – which has inspired books and a film, and is known as ‘Britain’s Roswell – to more modern close encounters, here’s six times aliens dropped in on Britain.

'Dead' woman found alive in South Africa morgue fridge2 July 2018
A South African woman is recovering in hospital after being discovered alive in a mortuary fridge.
The woman was taken to Carletonville morgue, in Gauteng province, having been declared dead by paramedics following a road accident.
Ambulance company Distress Alert said she had shown "no form of life", South Africa's TimesLive website reports.
But when a morgue worker returned to check on the body in the fridge, he found the woman was breathing.
An official has confirmed to the BBC the woman is now being treated in a hospital east of Johannesburg after being referred by forensics officers. She has not been named.
An investigation into the incident is being carried out, with the family demanding answers.
"As a family we won't talk about this unless the police, paramedics and the mortuary officials who were involved are present. We need answers," a family member told the BBC, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The man said the family was in shock.
"The issue is that we need answers, that's all we want and we don't have any clarity now," he added.
Distress Alert operations manager Gerrit Bradnick said there was "no proof of any negligence" on his company's behalf.
"This did not happen because our paramedics are not properly trained," he told TimesLive.
Mr Bradnick told TimesSelect she was one of several people involved in a car accident which left two others dead on Sunday, 24 June.

Does China have a UFO? British 'X-Files' indicate the UK thought so
By Andrew Koubaridis news.com.au 2 July 2018
Long before Fox Mulder and Dana Scully made alien-hunting famous in the hit show "The X-Files," British defense experts were quietly doing the same thing.
Newly-released files have revealed the lengths the British security services went to in order to catch a UFO - and the once-classified documents also show what they intended to do with it if they found one.
The UK feared their rivals China or the Soviet Union - as Russia was known then - had already found a UFO and “impounded it”, so they could learn the secrets of alien technology. The UK spooks were of the belief the Chinese or Soviets were using the aliens’ secrets to develop fast aircraft that were invisible on radars.
The Ministry of Defence ran a secret UFO desk the public were not aware of, between 1947 and 1997. While one desk took calls from Brits who claimed to have seen strange objects in the sky, the secret desk reportedly sent staff to delve into the claims.
A report entitled “UAPs” (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) in the UK Air Defence Region is set to be released to the public after being declassified.
The report makes up a part of three files running to more than 1000 pages which were held back from the UFO records that have already been transferred to the National Archives.
The report said the air force was “particularly interested in any novel technology...propulsion, stealth and any novel electromagnetic technologies.”
A senior commander was concerned a foreign power could already have a UFO and be exploiting its technology. The unnamed commander urged the UK needed to be on alert for anything strange in the skies.
“An actual - or potential enemy - could develop a flying device with the characteristics that these phenomena seem to have.”
He said enemy aircraft that moved very quickly and seemingly vanished should be closely examined.
University lecturer - and UFO expert - Dr David Clarke said the release of the files showed the lengths defense officials went to.
“Even though they have been partly censored they can’t conceal the fact the UK military were interested in capturing UFO technology - or what they coyly refer to as ‘novel weapon technology’,” he told The Sun.
“And the files reveal they were desperate to capture this technology - wherever it came from - before the Russians or the Chinese got hold of it first.”

China's Laser Gun
Beijing (AFP) - A Chinese firm has developed a laser gun designed for police use that can set fire to protesters' hair or banners from a range of almost one kilometre. The general manager of the ZKZM fiber laser company, who asked to remain anonymous, said the weapon would "immediately" produce a "strong pain response" in the target but stressed it was designed to be "non-lethal". "The weapon is designed to do things such as setting fire to illegal banners at a protest or setting fire to the hair or clothing of a protester," he told AFP. "It is not designed explicitly for killing like a gun that uses bullets and cannot cause the 'instant carbonisation' of human skin and tissues," he added. The 15-mm calibre weapon weighs three kilogrammes (6.6 pounds), has a range of 800 metres (2,600 feet) and can pass through glass and other transparent obstacles. It can be mounted on cars, boats and planes, the firm said, adding that it was "seeking a partner that has a weapons production licence or a partner in the security or defence industry to start large-scale production". It is "mainly expected to be for Chinese police use", the manager told AFP. He said it would need to be upgraded to a "laser cannon" -- with increased power -- to become lethal and confirmed his firm was working on such a weapon.

Good morning lovely UFOCasebookers!
12 News Phoenix
From the Phoenix Lights to Travis Walton's disappearance, here are the top five UFO stories here in Arizona.
Author: Brandon Hamilton Published: 3:35 PM PST July 2, 2018 In just a few days, thousands of people will flood the streets in Roswell, New Mexico for the annual UFO Festival to celebrate one of the most notorious UFO sightings to date.
Here in Arizona, there have been more than 3,000 recorded sightings since 1950.
Here are five of the most talked about sightings in Arizona:
5. The Rhodes Photos, July 7, 1947
A man named William Rhodes saw a disk circling above him in Phoenix. He took two photographs which are one of the first and best UFO pictures ever taken.
“That was the first Air Force investigation and it happened right here in Arizona," said Alejandro Rojas, who hosts Open Minds UFO Radio.
One day later, on July 8, the Roswell incident happened. Coincidence?
4. The Dreamy Draw UFO Crash October of 1947
Months after the Roswell Crash, witnesses reported seeing a 36-foot spacecraft crash near what is now the Dreamy Draw Dam.
The conspiracy theory is that the government built the 455-foot-long Dreamy Draw Dam in order to hide the wreckage.
“Really I think it’s more of an urban legend that’s been mixed up," said Rojas.
3. Marana Air Base Sighting April of 1952
Air Force instructors reported seeing a bright polished metallic object in the sky over the base. Pilots took off to get a better look but it quickly vanished. It was investigated by the Air Force in Project Blue Book.
2. The Travis Walton abduction
On November 5, 1975, while working with a logging crew in northern Arizona, Walton noticed a bright object in the distance. When he approached it, he says, he was hit by a light and his body lifted into the air. His colleagues left the scene and Walton was missing for five days before reappearing.
“Travis’ case really makes me scratch my head. I’ve gotten to know him very well. He’s a very credible person," said Rojas.
1. The Phoenix Lights
One of the largest mass UFO sightings in the world happened here in Phoenix on March 13, 1997. Glowing orbs in the shape of a V hovered over Arizona silently moving south.
Most recently, commercial airline pilots reported seeing a bright object thousands of feet above them while flying over southeastern Arizona.
Looks like Arizona is the best place to celebrate World UFO Day.
