Good morning,
The week of 9/11 my Husband and I were standing out in the backyard in Mesa, AZ about 9:00pm. The dogs were out there with us nosing around. We were talking about how eerie it was not having any air traffic because of 9/11. Looking up at the night sky.
All of a sudden two lights flying in tandem came zooming over our area. The Husband pointed up at the lights. I looked up as they took a spin around the area. As it headed back toward us all I could think of was, "GET THE DOGS INTO THE HOUSE!"
I ran them into the house, turned back around in time to see the lights zoom off to the west.
Dogs definitely come first around our house.

Footage filmed from a Cambridgeshire garden shows mysterious 'UFO'

A Cambridgeshire man has shot remarkable footage of what appears to be a UFO hovering in the sky above.
The video, filmed yesterday evening (April 22), shows a ball of light floating above the sky near Landbeach.
It appears to flicker and move.
“I went out for a cigarette before bed, it must have been about 11 o’clock at night, and I saw these two lights," the resident, who did not wish to be identified, said.
"One was roughly 300 ft in the air and white, the other hovering just above the tree line and orange. The orange one hovered for about five minutes before disappearing out of view. The one you can see hovered for at least 15 minutes. It was still there after I got the footage and went back inside.”
He told the News that it was west of Landbeach, and he estimates it was "just two miles away", which means the light would have been hovering almost directly above the river Cam, and eight miles north of Cambridge.

An astrophysicist and forensic astronomer, Olson uses quantitative methods to answer questions raised by artwork, literature, and historical accounts—not the heady ones, but the basic, surprisingly slippery who, what, when, and where.
In the past, he and his team at Texas State University have figured out where Julius Caesar landed when he invaded Britain in 55 B.C. (northeast of Dover), why the British didn’t spot Paul Revere as he made his Midnight Ride (the moon was in a weird spot), and the identity of at least two mysterious yellow orbs floating in paintings: the one in Vincent Van Gogh’s White House at Night (it’s Venus) and the one in Edvard Munch’s The Girls on the Pier (it’s the moon).

Aliens on Distant Planets Could Be Trapped by Intense Gravitational Forces

In the ongoing search for extraterrestrial intelligence, it's easy to become discouraged sometimes, what with all the evidence stacking up for why we've never heard from aliens in all the vastness of the cosmos.
Now an astrophysicist from Germany has come up with another sound reason for our frustrating lack of close encounters, and it makes an awful lot of sense when you think about it.
Michael Hippke, an independent researcher affiliated with the Sonneberg Observatory in Germany, says one of the challenges for alien civilisations seeking to explore space would be generating sufficient thrust to escape the gravitational forces of their home planets.
But wait a second, humans developed the ability to launch spacecraft into and across our Solar System last century, so why couldn't advanced extraterrestrial lifeforms pull off the same trick?
The problem, according to Hippke, are the planets these (hypothetical) beings may (hypothetically) be calling home.
One planet type astronomers and astrophysicists think could offer good prospects for habitability is a Super-Earth – these are rocky exoplanets with significantly higher mass than Earth's, which could give them thicker atmospheres capable of fostering and shielding alien life on or within their surfaces.
There's just one drawback with this Super-Earth scenario, but it's a biggie.
"On more-massive planets, spaceflight would be exponentially more expensive," Hippke told Space.com.
In his new research, Hippke calculated the amount of thrust alien spacecraft would need to escape the gravitational pull of Super-Earths and even larger, higher-mass worlds.
If conventional rocket fuel were being used, the calculations show it doesn't take long for the resource to go beyond 'expensive' and border on the impossible.
For a launch like the classical Apollo moon mission, a rocket lifting off from a Super-Earth would need approximately 400,000 metric tonnes of fuel in order to take off, which as Hippke writes in his paper, is about the "mass of the Pyramid of Cheops, and is probably a realistic limit for chemical rockets regarding cost constraints".
Because of this constraint, Hippke calculates chemical rocket launches using conventional fuel would be possible but impractical on Super-Earths, but if the alien world were to get even bigger and have a higher mass, you'd need to start looking at alternative rocket propulsion systems, like nuclear propulsion.
That's because as the worlds get larger and their mass becomes greater, it gets to the point where chemical fuel would be almost ridiculously underpowered, where "a sizeable fraction of the planet" in fuel amounts would need to be used for every launch, significantly limiting the number of flights possible on alien worlds.
Of course, this being extraterrestrials we're talking about, it's entirely possible they may be able to come up with a vastly different alien technology to help get them off-world.
But up until they do that and fly into our field of vision, at least we've got another reasonable explanation for why we haven't met any aliens yet – much as we long to see the day when we do.

Seems to overlook a couple of things.
Any beings that exist on a high gravity planet would need a physical structure in keeping with this problem. It has been suggested that they would be quite short, very stocky.
And that if any such beings were out there looking for a new home planet then they would be looking for something similar to the one they come from; much as we do.
So if they exist at all they may not be interested in our comparatively low gravity home. And that could account for why we don't see them around.

A towering, human-like figure carved from wood and discovered in a Russian peat bog is more than twice as old as the Egyptian pyramids, scientists have found.
Gold miners discovered pieces of the elongated structure, dubbed the Shigir Idol, in 1894. But it wasn't until about 100 years later, in the late 1990s, that researchers did radiocarbon dating and found it was about 9,900 years old, making it the oldest wooden monumental sculpture in the world, the researchers said.
But this dating wasn't reliable, so scientists just did an exhaustive analysis and discovered that the idol is much, much older than previously thought — about 11,500 years old — meaning it was constructed during the midst of the last ice age.
