One big difference between religious belief and scientific belief is that science, when it discovers what was believed to be fact, is wrong can, and probably will, change it based on the new learning. Religious belief is set in stone. And one puts one's life in jeopardy if one attempts to bring logic into it. Religion is a power game. Anyone who doubts the truth of that need only reflect on the fate of people who have disagreed with the people holding religious power. From the Catholic Church to ISIS. HAL NOTE TO FORUM MEMBERS I HOPE THIS WIN 10 PIECE OF..... JUNK DESKTOP IS CALMING DOWN. I HAVE SPENT FOUR HOURS WRITING THE REPLIES MADE TODAY ! THE THING SHUT DOWN REPEATEDLY AND GAVE ME THE HORRIFIC BLACK SCREEN A FEW OF THOSE TIMES. SO I DID A PARTITION RECOVERY AND FIXED A BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH...BUT MY REPLIES WERE ALL SCREWED UP....I HOPE I GOT ALL THEM EDITED. UPDATE HAL, AFTER POSTING THIS I NOTICED THE DELETE DIDNT WORK SO YOU NOW HAVE TWO REPLIES FROM ME....AHHHH MAN I AM GOING TO START DRINKING AGAIN! Yes Hal that is of course falsifiability, an important premise of scientific methodology. Its also the shell game and confidence man of science. Most are, that is called absolutism. That said and it hurts but religious scribes preachers writers and priests have more subtle and covert ways of altering TRUTH.For those false prophets will say they want a mountain fall on them during the white throne judgment. I cant say I agree. The overwhelming majority of Christians are the fair weather variety and will not harm anyone. A christian is just as likely to receive harm I say. ; {>

There is, of course, no absolute truth in science.
There is only our best understanding of the situation as it is at the moment. It can change (and does) any day.
If we ever find out where the ufo come from (even if it is in our psyche, then things will get very interesting.

Yes I agree Hal. In my secret heart of hearts I have doubts absolute truth exists at all! let me vet that last sentence; I doubt truth or absolute truth is possible in the physical universe. Professors and students of philosophy would use the word universal truth** instead of absolute truth but I am straining here! ha ha..! Even mathematics has serious problems with the concept concerning what is truth and whats not true as Gödel theorems* discovered (see note). If we can't prove hard mathematics are true or not true how do we know that our scientific truths are that***? Answer, we cant! Btw, I am not using strict terminology of scientific philosophy, etc because first I am not that well educated in the fields being discussed and second I'm trying to be brief.
You know Hal, it's not that dislike science, or even the scientific method, or the majority of scientists, even secular or atheist a scientists (lol). I suppose I dislike the bigotry and the harm that comes from hobbling free thinkers by not allowing every last bit of knowledge to solve complex problems, or maybe even build a new or enhanced scientific method! Anyway, I will stop. I am getting dangerously close to a rant!
So Linux huh? I may just jump ship, MS is an evil oh so evil force! Don't you use a PC?
*....FROM THE WEB....Gödel proved fundamental results about axiomatic systems showing in any axiomatic mathematical system there are propositions that cannot be proved or disproved within the axioms of the system.
**...FROM WIKI; Universal truth; If it (a universal truth... my add on) is logically valid in and also beyond all times and places. Hence a universal truth is considered logically to transcend the state of the physical universe, whose order is derived from such truths. In this case, such a truth is seen as eternal or as absolute.
***...This was added on this last edit. >>> 'Precisely speaking' I am taking artistic licence when describing what Gödel's theorems mean about truth, but the end result is not corrupted. That said I sadly must report my allies in conservative venues have misrepresented, twisted and otherwise abused Gödel's theorems to use as evidence for their own well meaning but wrong ideas.
A word about Wikipedia. I love wiki but its sourced using nontraditional methods, so I am very cautious when I quote from it or even use it for a research research source. That is especially true if I am writing a piece for public consumption or an article that will face a peer review, but those 'peer' days are mostly over! MrY

Mryelm,
Do I use a PC ? Indeed I do. Using one right now. An Acer Aspire. It has an AMD Phenom X4_64 processor. Fast enough for me.
It's running openSuSe Leap_15.1 I was using Windows XP until I got fed up of all the limitation that some places are putting on it's use. I still use it on my laptop.
Wikipedia does have the problem that it can be changed more or less by anyone. But it is a good starting point.
HAL.

Also as I said I am not happy with win 10, it seems with each 'new' OS MS just adds stuff that I don't want. I can always add stuff, and MS sweems to be making it more difficult to take off programs etc. Thanks for your reply Hal ~
