People have forgotten why we ousted those poor, mistreated N. American Indians. I grew up in El Paso Texas, a sleepy little western town sporting a hanging tree across the street from the court house down town and an open aligator park in the town center. It was nice safe little town before President Johnson (a stupid Democrat who lost the Vietnam War, among other things) ruined America by creating the Birther Law, enabling Mexican hordes a lawful route to the Free Meal, in the 1960s. My mother grew up in the 1920s in El Paso Texas & Tucson Arizona. Her mother was a vaudevillian stage sharp-shooter, who resided on Pullman-Cars, stopping and performing her acts all along the steel-rail where ever it journeyed. GrandMa developed asthma as result of breathing all the gun smoke emitted from her firearms through the ensuing years of her stage performances. Although, her husband was a famous research & patent medicine doctor, there were no therapies for asthma in the 1800s, except dry climates.
The point I'm making is that the progressives, the future leftists who grew up in the manicured cities in those periods only read about how the frontier people interacted with the Natives. I personally have seen lodge poles strewn with the blonde and red hair scalps of White women and the drinking skeins fashioned from White women's breasts, after the raping and the shrunken heads of the White settlers who were unfortunate to be caught and roasted alive by all those poorly mistreated American Indians.
One of my friends in high school, who, one night, while we were drinking beers together, suddenly and savagedly without, any warning, beat me half to death with his grand-father's war club fashioned out of an ornately decorated White settler leg bone. He was Apache, Red FireStone. (Durring a traffic stop, Red FireStone hit a policeman in the head with a Coke(tm) bottle, killing him, and is serving life in prison.) NA Indians snap like a light switch when they have injested too much alcohol, become visciously wild heathens, they literaly go stark raving mad crazy! Maybe Black Africans also behave thusly? Red FireStone told his stories of brutality, with much glee, handed down from his father's fathers over the generations. People forget. One of the commonly told stories by the old Texans, people who were still around in those, my days, was about catching White settlers, cutting their tongues out so that they couldn't scream, while staked out, tied over an ant hill, their eyelids cut-off to have them stare at the sun while being eaten alive by ants. People have forgotten the reasons. There were many. We stamped them out because we learned that we could not live with them and they could not behave with us.
If things don't change, there's gonna be a general house cleaning. Every long term advanced civilization has done so. If we are to survive, so will we. Its authentic history, not what the revisionists write.
No one alive today was mistreated then and no one today mistreated them then. Stop hanging on to the past, it is dead and long gone. Its time to grow up and make new history.

I remember being told when I was young that the Apache were the most cruel of the Native Americans.... tying people to ant hills to be eaten alive is something the Japanese did to POW's during WWII, I know because my father was a Japanese prisoner of war and told me he saw them doing it. My family are forever grateful to American soldiers that rescued my father from Changi Japanese Prison of war camp. He was nothing but a skeleton when he was rescued and he never got over what the Japanese did to him and what he saw. How much worse was it for American settlers at the hands of Native Americans... It brings tears to my eyes thinking about what they endured.
Man's inhumanity to man knows no boundaries.
I should add though that I have a special affection for the Cherokee.... I have spoken to some of them on visits to America and the feeling of affection was instant. There is good and bad in every race on Earth...

plutronus I hear you, I really do, the past isn't 'Good Ol' it is a place of stark terror, one which our ancestral lines survived, and not entirely by being nice.
Now I'm putting on that little hat logo'd MOD and I note your post with poignant personal and family memories/history and your extrapolated opinions, regarding North American Indians/Native Americans and 'black Africans'[sic] which I take as African Americans, is free speech though some might argue your analysis of Native American and African American plight is way too harsh and balancing on the very edge of that great and inalienable right.
Finally, and this is actually my reason for entering post, LET'S NOT recommend (not saying that you were ya hear?) or have the appearance of recommending stamping out / generally house cleaning any segments (blacks, whites, any fellow human beings of whatever color, creed, political affiliation or sexual orientation etc. etc. etc.) of our democratic societies.
MEMBERS ARE FREE TO MAKE THE ARGUMENT (from whatever perspective, as long as done in a civil manner without name calling). LET US REASON TOGETHER... SOLVE THE PROBLEM... AND SURVIVE TOGETHER.

Purr,
If you want to know how modern black Africans treat whites (given the opportunity) just look at Zimbabwe.
Also the history of the ANC after the end of Apartheid.

How do we (the human race) get to a better place? purr We don't get to a much better place, ever. Sadly we are tribal by nature. And will always be so. So the best we can do is gradually get used to each other. But as any football match will show. tribalism comes easily. Then there are things like the situation with football referees. It seems that the people who are pushing the black agenda have noticed that there are no black referees in major league football. And, in true ' it aint fair', style, they are complaining about it. But they don't mention that a very large proportion of major league players are black. Now, why is that ? HAL.

Now, why is that ?HAL. It all goes back to the bell curve. NFL, NBA 80% or better African-Americans, and the slavery years. Little did these slave traders know that in their greedy efforts they would actually be filling the future ranks of the NFL/NBA. Now what is unique about the NFL? Well, you need big men, the bigger the better. That’s not to say that you needn’t be skillful, the quarterback, the running backs and receivers, but lineman need size. The NBA, primary is to be tall. Getting back to the bell curve and the greedy slave traders how does this relate to the NBA and the NFL? A slave trader picked the biggest, and strongest men from the African tribes; knowing full well that they would command the best price. In terms of the bell curve this was a form of genetic engineering whereby the biggest and tallest men were selected because they would bring the best price and also better equipped to survive the journey to America. The tall and large portion of the bell curve was selected, leaving the other, average and small. This means that the progeny of this select group were inherently destined to carry the genes for bigness and tallness, exactly the attributes required in the NBA and the NFL. Baseball not so much.

OK, HAL, I agree. How do we (the human race) get to a better place? purr "Gradually get used to each other"... that is a mechanism, HAL. I like it. The Netherlands had a great version of it, set on a course to modern democracy by William "THE SILENT" of Orange during the 16th century, who came up with the idea that instead of Catholics and Protestants (plus sects within the latter denomination) and even persecuted Jews, goin' all 'tribal', fanatically at odds over the true interpretation of one Faith or the other, basically killing & making war over theology, Willy-guy saying instead ...EVERYBODY SHOULD TRADE making the Netherlands rich, his brand of policy turning the 17th century into our Golden Age. So your recipe may be already sizzling on the stove. Tribes are trading. Democracies thrive. And we're reading about what the other tribe thinks and feels and believes (which is actually quite recognizable, human beings have so much in common!). Mankind HAS been getting to a better place over (centuries, even millennia worth of) time. Baby steps, like abolishing and prohibiting slavery in the Netherlands, England and America, culminating in descendants of slaves winning full equality under law in modern times and (I still think this is so cool) electing an African American POTUS, Barack Obama. HAL, we have been getting better. But imho the current BLM activism, the attack on culture, the statues, the outrage over police brutality and the emphasis on 'systemic racism' is not part of this positive trend. Because at its heart is a willingness to punish Innocence in the name of a supposed greater good, 'fair treatment' for black people. (The imbalance in numbers among black vs. white refs, tenure professors, convicts doing jail time, and presidents need not be caused by racism.) Innocence= Those statues did no harm to nobody. Neither did streets named after historical slave owners. On a more serious note, at this point in time the absolute majority of police officers recently shown in 'police brutality' videos, losing their job, reputation, freedom even their life put in jeopardy do not appear guilty of breaking the law or actual racism. They were simply denounced as racist and their lives/careers are... over. purr

Unfortunately efforts for unity are muddled by a political Democrat agenda.

A Facebook post:
I think all sports fans and most everybody else will get a kick out of this letter written to the Chicago Tribune. No matter which side you are on in the matter of renaming the Washington Redskins, this is funny. This guy is hilarious...
This is an e-mail sent to Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune after an article he published concerning a name change for the Washington Redskins
Dear Mr. Page: I agree with our Native American population. I am highly jilted by the racially charged name of the Washington Redskins. One might argue that to name a professional football team after Native Americans would exalt them as fine warriors, but nay, nay. We must be careful not to offend, and in the spirit of political correctness and courtesy, we must move forward.
Let's ditch the Kansas City Chiefs, the Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians. If your shorts are in a wad because of the reference to the name Redskins makes to skin color, then we need to get rid of the Cleveland Browns.
The Carolina Panthers obviously were named to keep the memory of militant Blacks from the 60's alive. Gone. It's offensive to us white folk.
The New York Yankees offend the Southern population. Do you see a team named for the Confederacy? No! There is no room for any reference to that tragic war that cost this country so many young men's lives. I am also offended by the blatant references to the Catholic religion among our sports team names. Totally inappropriate to have the New Orleans Saints, the Los Angeles Angels or the San Diego Padres.
Then there are the team names that glorify criminals who raped and pillaged. We are talking about the horrible Oakland Raiders, the Minnesota Vikings, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh Pirates!
Now, let us address those teams that clearly send the wrong message to our children. The San Diego Chargers promote irresponsible fighting or even spending habits. Wrong message to our children.
The New York Giants and the San Francisco Giants promote obesity, a growing childhood epidemic. Wrong message to our children.
The Cincinnati Reds promote downers/barbiturates. Wrong message to our children.
The Milwaukee Brewers. Well that goes without saying. Wrong message to our children.
So, there you go. We need to support any legislation that comes out to rectify this travesty, because the government will likely become involved with this issue, as they should. Just the kind of thing the do-nothing Congress loves.
As a die-hard Oregon State fan, my wife and I, with all of this in mind, suggest it might also make some sense to change the name of the Oregon State women's athletic teams to something other than "the Beavers (especially when they play Southern California. Do we really want the Trojans sticking it to the Beavers???
I always love your articles and I generally agree with them. As for the Redskins name I would suggest they change the name to the "Foreskins" to better represent their community, paying tribute to the dick heads in Washington DC.

And don't forget the Indian motorcycle.
Or the Jeep Cherokee
The whole thing is a farce. Suck it up, you PC supporters. History is what has happened. Don't try to hide it.
Remember what happens to those who forget the mistakes of the past.

As you likely may not know, or maybe you do?, as UKer's see all the US Public stupidity that we shamelessly exhibit, that most US Americans (in difference to the south of the border continental communista Hispanic Americans who are aligned with Russia), that we are essentially clueless regarding the state of affairs in Rhodesia...errr Zimbabwe, which our British cousins and the mabhunu Zimbo's know first hand.
As I know virtually nothing about current African state of affairs, aside from the fact that President Obama was given the Nobel Prize, simply because he was Black (which I've learned is insulting to many of the other Nobelists who worked their as.ses off in their respective fields of endeavor, earning that prize), that something is happening that American news does not bother to reveal to us or have us know...so I've been boning-up on the subject as result of your comment.
Late President of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe's reply re; his rigged election, Posted: December 30, 2013 at 8:18 pm
"
Please don’t talk rubbish, produce evidence, disadvantaged how?
If you do not have anything to say keep quiet.
Vote rigging? We are tired of this story, what is the way forward???? We are not interested in your wild dreams and accusations. For that I will flag you down.
"
Pr Mugabe's 'flagging' consisted of intimidation, home burnings, killings, and shutting down of pro-democracy radio-stations.
The following pdf document is a detailed report/summary of the post apartheid history of Africa, which I found on an African radio station, via the "WayBack Machine" archive server, the station apparently was shut down Aug 10, 2014 by the late President Mugabe
Summary Report archived from SW Radio Africa Station:
It is worth visiting the SW Radio Africa station website:

Violence on white‐owned farms (post apartheid)
"
At the same time, the murder of white farmers had continued. After the murder of Henry Elsworth on his farm in the Midlands, President Mugabe was reported as saying on December 14, 2000: “The white man is not indigenous to Africa. Africa is for Africans. Zimbabwe is for Zimbabweans. Our party must continue to strike fear into the heart of the white man who is the real enemy.”
On December 31, 2000, the Commercial Farmers’ Union (CFU) did a survey and found that among other things, 1,600 white‐owned farms had been invaded and that on them there had been: - 17 murders;
- 26 rapes;
- 459 abduction & tortures;
- 424 serious assaults;
- 3,890 minor assaults;
- 3,853 death threats
There had also been massive production losses which would begin to tell in the state of the economy and food security in the subsequent year and beyond.
Illegal allocation of white‐owned properties
Despite the Supreme Court order to stop invasions and the allocation of land by government Minister Joseph Made, (the Minister of Lands, Agricultural and Rural Resettlement), he was reported in the (State‐owned) Herald as saying: “We have resolved to go ahead and allocate land on all gazette (white‐owned) properties even before court confirmation and we will attend to legal issues later. ”

Okay Hal, (or anyone else) since you brought it up, the NFL and the AFC started a long time ago, 50s 60s whatever. African-American athletes have been getting paid millions. If you consider all of them since the beginning of commercialized football they must constitute a group of billionaires. Now I ask how many of them even give a hoot about black lives matter. Oh I know a few have been altruistic, but can you show me an outpouring of altruism for their fellow disadvantaged brothers. Hell no.
