Are you troubled by strange noises in the middle of the night? Do you experience feelings of dread in your basement or attic? Have you or your family ever seen a spook, spectre, or ghost?
If the answer is “yes,” then don’t wait another minute: Watch the teaser trailer for Jason Reitman’s upcoming Ghostbustersmovie.
Known for biting commentaries like Thank You For Smoking, Juno, Up in the Air, and The Front Runner, Reitman—son of legendary director Ivan Reitman (Meatballs, Stripes, Twins, Kindergarten Cop)—is picking up his father’s torch for a [second] modern take on everyone’s favorite ghost-catching parapsychologists.
On Tuesday, Entertainment Weekly announced that Reitman will direct and co-write the upcoming film, set in the same world saved by proton pack-wearing eccentrics in the 1984 original.
“I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a six-year-old visiting the set,” Reitman told the magazine. “I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans."
“This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot,” he explained. “What happened in the ’80s happened in the ’80s, and this is set in the present day.”
Reitman’s unnamed Ghostbusters movie will not cross streams with Paul Feig’s 2016 all-female reboot (which, while well-received by critics, was the focus of much criticisms from online trolls).
“I have so much respect for what Paul created with those brilliant actresses [Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy], and would love to see more stories from them,” he added. “However, this new movie will follow the trajectory of the original film.”
A teaser trailer from Sony Pictures dates the film for summer 2020; shooting will begin “in a few months,” according to EW.

There is no word yet on a potential plot, characters, or cast. It’s anyone’s guess whether original actors Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, or Bill Murray will reprise their roles 35 years later. Egon Spengler’s Harold Ramis passed away in 2014.
“This is very early, and I want the film to unwrap like a present,” Reitman, who co-wrote the screenplay with Monster House and Poltergeist remake director Gil Kenan, said. “We have a lot of wonderful surprises and new characters for the audience to meet.”
The Hollywood Reporter hinted that filmmakers are looking to cast four teenagers—two boys, two girls—in the movie. (That certainly fits with the teaser trailer’s eerie Stranger Things vibe.)
In the words of Dr. Peter Venkman: “I love this plan! I’m excited to be a part of it! Let’s do it!”
