In 1948 two Eastern Airline pilots, and also an awake passenger, see a UFO. The pilots made drawings and a report about the UFO. These two pilots were well respected being in WWII, and continued to fly with Eastern into the jet age of the 1960's before retirement. But General Hoyt S. Vandenberg, Chief of Staff, would not have any talk about space craft not from earth. Vandenberg thought all UFOs were Russian connected. This and other sightings dismayed J. Allen Hynek who at the time was working on Project Blue Book. This also dismayed Edward J. Ruppelt, head of Project Blue Book, who tried to argue this case for UFOs with Vandenberg, but failed. Vandenberg set the strong anti-UFO tone that we know today. www.history.com/news/ufo-chiles-whitted-soviet-spycraft-air-force-coverup
